Some think that if your beetle has a padded dash, it's an engine donor. Some think that if it has push button door handles, it's a boat anchor.

I got a good chuckle when I saw this in the description of every pic of that '73 bus posted above:

I guess the single caliper bolt is a weight saving performance modification only the really serious competition types know of? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

two functioning engines! sounds fast!
Quote: |
This is a Subaru Volkswagen Car Invention. It is a functioning vehicle. It has two engines, one in the front and one in the back. They both function. The asking price is $7,000 or best offer.
The front half is a 1985 Subaru GL 4 cylinders. The back end is a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cylinders.

How does that vehicle actually work? Two functioning engines that are synced to work together at the same time, each one on its own axle? Acceleator linkage? Howwhatwhy?? |

On Citroen's 2CV sahara the driver could choose to engage FWD, RWD or AWD; the car had two identical engines/gearboxes, one per axle, that worked in sync when in AWD mode.
a similar arrangement may have been set up for that abortion, though it seems difficult to have two engines with different power/torque curves and gearbox ratios work in sync. maybe one can just use one engine at time? _________________ cars:

Reminds me of that old joke airplane pilots tell about twin engine aircraft. When the first engine fails the second engine will get you to the crash site .... _________________ Gary

It's fairly simple actually other than things like throttle cables/gear linkage - even easier if one or both are automatic.
If you think about it, why do the engines need to be "in sync"? A team of horses pulls a carriage better than one, yet all horses are different. _________________

You still have to handle 2 starter circuits (what if 1 fails!), fuel lines, double gearboxes,... |
