For sure. Fins to the rear is a sure sign of a Hodad.

To assist the surfing ignorant, is there a reason to run with the fins forward? I have surfed, but never had to haul a board before.

Not sure for long boards but I did it for shortboards just in case the rear strap broke and my board would'nt slide out. For me it was more peace of mind, never lost a board.

The back strap should never break. The front is under the pressure when the wind hits the windshield and goes up over the car and pushed up on the board. I always double strap the front whether the fins are in front or not.

They shouldn't but I know of two people that had the rear strap break from sun fatigue/rot.

that is their own fault like driving a car with rotting tires. Replace those straps. Wink

But back to the question or concern about of the fins should be in the back or front. It really does not matter. Just don't ever put the board on the car top side up or you will have wax melted all over your car. Wax side down.
