Cool that it all matches but it should have Sigla... just thought I would point this out as that is sort of a big $$$$ expense to fix, assuming a buyer cared. |
The Safari's weren't original to this bus. They were salvaged out of a bus in Guatemala by Jeff.
I think the only original rare accessories to the bus were the ambulance fans and the locking steering column.
This bus was pictured in Hot VWs coverage of one of the Texas meets with a full length roof rack with a pile of real BRMs in it. I can't remember how many were in the rack, but I know the collection was up to seven wheels at one time. It was painted lilac at the time, had a yellow, rose embossed vinyl interior, and had semaphores and barndoor fisheye tailights grafted into it. _________________ Jason McDaniel |

Well, he doesn't say they were original to that bus. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

I assumed he meant because the photos are distorted.
If you don't see that... it's glasses time! |
yea that first pic is a doosey.
Heres a whine I just found on local CL, he's looking for a "superclean" "project" bus in the rather wide price range of $500-$8000

Some late '63's had Sekurit. Being an inward vent bus that could be correct.
I didn't know Jeff restored that bus... I remember him driving it out to Phoenix in the early 90's with the early tail lights, semaphores and I think it was in some kind of purple primer. I hope he's doing well! _________________ David S |

Haven't seen anything here in my favorite thread in a couple days and I have let a few things slide. But now I'm bored at work. So here ya go. I can get these through Home Depot in stainless for a couple bucks. _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

Not a rag on the price or anything because I think this could be the best use of a panel (no offence to the panel guys, just my opinion), but how many times can you count "fitted"?
I do like this bus though. That's a ton of work, but if it doesn't have belly pans "fitted", that would be an issue for me as a driver. _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

they sell VW specific shock bolts at home depot? news to me.
that bolt is a VW part with a VW part number, not a standard hardware item with an N number.
the shoulder of the bolt is larger than the threads so that it can fit through the shock mount and fit tight on the shock while being able to attach hardware to the threaded end. this helps keep your shocks on tight so they don't clunk every time you go over a bump.
the price does seem high until you can't find them. _________________ .

So out of curiosity, I did a quick check of a few parts vendors. CIP1, WW, Mid America, etc,. They all carry them. On average for about 5 bucks. So if you "can't find them", you haven't looked. Just sayin. _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

I have a sneaking suspicion that if they come from CIP or Mid America, they are far from the correct bolt. I could be wrong. _________________ nothing |

That ad was from 2009, they might go for more now.

Is it just me or is the position of that front emblem WAY off or what?
