That grey (faux) deluxe sure has it's problems. For that kind of $$$ you would think he would sand the runs out of the dash by the radio hole, and put in a block off, origonal or repop. Oh and no knee knocker pad on the steering column support???

insurance agents and thieves see missing wiper squirters, repro mirrors, off axis fog lights, wrong model year colors, wrong color bumpers and trinkety shit all over a bus

Not saying I agree with him, but that's a funny call out.

How many wrong things on this wrongstored "show quality" turd? I'll start the ball rolling with a half dozen offensive observations of note:
1) Bug wheels not bus, radial tires, no logos on hubcaps
2) Pop outs are wrong direction and there are eight of them
3) Wrong seats and wrong grab bar on middle seat, heat pressed seams not sewn seams
4) No arm rests or rear deluxe cargo bar on back seat or brackets to hold seat back up
5) No rear carpet or vinyl material over gas filler neck, no coat hooks
6) Wrong ancillaries on engine, ie: carb, air cleaner, distributor, voltage regulator, fresh air tube clamps etc.
Was it even a 23 window deluxre to start with, or a converted panel? No vent trim holes in the rear louvers, no cargo rocker spears, no bumper trim. OK, let's build a list and hopefully this clown will go back to building "tribute Camaros" and leave the bus scene to bus people.

Why would you do that to the popout windows? You would have to remove the hinges and latch mount points to do this... why?

I'm not commenting about the price, but it wasn't original paint, it had a vinyl headliner, and the seats were all redone prior to the latest restoration. I don't really think much was "lost" with the resto, although Jeff may still own it if he hadn't taken it apart.

Was the whole bus repainted? The history only mentioned the upper only repainted.

" In the mid-70's the bus received a repaint over the top of
its original sealing-wax red and chestnut brown colors. "

Does it really matter the price is a little over the top even it was painted before or not. Even if it had a rare option for the hemi motor.

If the engine runs and works why mess whit it.

That bus looks good in quality, but it is just wrong and the longer you look at it more you will see incorrect and missing parts on it. And really why all the other places including the chassis has been painted to look pretty but the engine looks like crap whit rattle can painted tins.

its pretty sad when you can go through the first page and a majority of busses on there are not worth the money... a POS with no engine and needs alot of work for 17k.... the mentality of i have a bus so lets list it on samba for big $$$ has hit big time even since i bought my bus over a year ago... even when you find one on craigslist, i have had remarks of, "well thats the going rate on Samba" .....

Actually I love Uzi's call out! Laughing Thanks for checking out my ride and yes, my bus is my bus and I love to roll it. My kids have helped it evolve all 'trinketed up' and i am not too purist to hack away a little here and there. [even my repop mirrors, sidestep, rack, etc are cool. i don't feel the need to pay huge bucks for NOS accessories and these get changed around seasonally anyway]
These perfect rides with crazy quarter million price tags have warped the perception of the VWbus though. [I guess my whine is it seems my insurance shouldn't be charging me anymore than a used corolla price given value, parts availability, etc]

It's a small thing, but it appears the front bump stop rubbers are split open. Those are cheap and easy to replace. Looks like they just painted over the split rubber, too.

It's all in the details....
Got to love the clear needle on the speedo!

At least it's an interesting speedo, I think it's the May/June/July 1960 variety. Very Happy

Because Kewl.

I've seen the extra popouts a bunch of time. Never made sense to me. First time I saw it guy was restoring his bus and said he just wanted to be a little different.
He also put jail bars on all the windows for the same reason.

Vent wing latches?
Bracket for steering column should be black.
Wrong hardware showing on S C bracket.
New ignition switch with new key. For 99K I want original style key working all locks including ignition ( locking steering excused for pre-67)
Grease fitting points straight up on top of spindle; the 90 degree angle fitting is missing.
Rubber mat above engine instead of square weave carpet.
no sound deadening/ tar strips under the rubber mat in back.
rubber mat is cut for 64-67 hatch mechanism.

Initial gestalt is shiny and clean, without the brash clown car treatment. Most of the things I mentioned are fairly small, and easy to change.
What is that bus worth? I see big prices on buses.

Are you saying the color line should be under the grey rubber seal? A few inches further in that it is?

I know Clara knows this but for those who are reading:
Here is my '63 Deluxe, look at what parts are green and what parts are Blue-White.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Doglegs are green into the cab
Underside of door is green
Door is 2-tone around and under the door panel
Door jam up front is 2-tone (not the best pic for this)

As several other people mentioned:
A lot of stuff is cosmetic and fixable so that just affects the price.
Stuff like the paint job though... that is a bigger issue.

If you want to get super crazy, notice how my door panel has a lot more screws holding it on. Cool

Better door jam pic for the 2-toning

I believe campingbox wanted to point that this Bus was not original paint beforehand.
Some people get riled up if a nice original bus is repainted.

Yeah, I'd much rather people call them hippy buggy vans and ask if they can buy it for a $1,000.00.

Just noticed there is no upper drain hole on the dogleg?

I believe that is wrong and it should have a hole like this:

It's a scam, tell the seller you're in Utah, 20 minutes away, cash in hand with your trailer ready for pick up, see what his answer is.
