Hello to everyone here in the off-road forum,
My name is bryan and i am usually on the bay forum. I currently have as you can see a 71 transporter. I was just wandering if you all could give me some pointers on buying a dune buggy. I have a friend at work that has given me the ph number of a guy that has a manx style buggy for sale he is asking 1500 for the buggy and a beatle to go with it. I have yet to see the cars yet but i do know that the buggy has bad floor pans on it. I have no idea if the floor is totally gone or if its just a hole. I know that the paint on the body is faded and it needs buffed really good or a new paint job.
do you guys think with out seeing this if its worth looking at? Is there any way to tell if the buggy is a manx??? _________________ Bryan

Pans are simple to do and very inexpensive. If its a complete car in decent shape the price isnt bad. As you know, finding good really clean cars is best left to the folks out west. _________________ The honey-do list put my project on hold....... |

Two obvious things to look for-
1) There's a small raised boss at the front of the hood, where a hood ornament would be, maybe still with a Manx logo similar to this:
2) Under the rear fenders, there's a tubular reinforcement, as though some garden hose had been fiberglassed into the underside of the body to create a ridge for added stiffness.
I think there also might have been an ID plate glassed into the engine compartment somewhere, too. |
