Hi
Chronological order?
With my mom driving, about 110 in a Chrysler station wagon.
115 in my Dodge Polara
120 in a friend’s 427 Camaro
90 for about 3 min in my 72 Hardtop Camper after rebuilding the engine just to see what it would do
90 for about 3 min in my 70 Beetle after rebuilding the engine just to see what it would do
125 for about 5 min in my 73 914 after rebuilding the engine just to see what it would do,…and then I checked again to see if it would do it again, great fun car
120 on my Kawasaki 500 triple 2stroke
120 on a Kawasaki 750 that my brother bought
135 in a friend’s 911
then many years never over 75mph (69 Westy)
42 on a Schwinn downhill, scariest of all
and 2 weeks ago, 90mph indicated in my 78 Westy after rebuilding the engine, but the speedo is about 10m optimistic.

I did about 110 mph for about an hour until I was pulled over. I had passed a plain car cop and he happened to be a supervisor at 110. He called ahead and had me pulled over by six units. This was on the highway that streches from Gila Bend AZ to Yuma AZ (about 100 miles striaght and flat) I was in a 84 GTI. When the supervisor finally caught up, he was yelling at me that I had sucked him up my intake when I passed him. I kinda got a little chuckle from that. He didn't like me laughing so he threatened to put me in jail that night. So I shut up after that. I got off with a ticket going 95. This was in the mid 80s so I did not get in much trouble. _________________ 71 Westy Hardtop, 1915

Did 110 in a cessna 180 taking off....hey it is aircooled!
My parents did 120 in a datsun 240z on a loooong straight empty highway in
CA, for about 100 miles. crazy.
I'm sure when I have my bus my story will be something like "I passed this guy on the freeway once. Quite a rush. But I guess it doesn't really count because he was broken down." _________________ 75 Deluxe Microbus - Finally alive and kicking!

Grand Junction Co. to San Jose Ca.
Time 16 hrs.
Snow storm on Interstate 70 kept top speed down to about 30 mph for about 2 hours.
Hit Interstate 15 weather cleared and I dropped the hammer down.
I was pressed for time. I Drove 90 mph from Beaver Utah to Barstow Area, Ca Rt. 58.
Took it easy on 2 lane blacktop Ca Rt. 58, and dropped the hammer again on Interstate 5.
Took it easy on 2 lane blacktop Ca Rt. 152, and dropped the hammer again on Highway 101.
Still going 90, and got passed by some fool in a minivan 12 miles out of San Jose.
Dropped speed 10 miles out of San Jose because CHP usually has a speed trap about there,
and as I came over the next hill the fool in the minivan had been pulled over by the CHP.
The trip totals were:
1034 miles, 4 tanks of Gas, 3 piss breaks, 6 cheese burgers.
I got home jumped in bed because I had to be at work @ 6:00 AM.
That bed never drove so fast !!!!!!!!!! _________________ Good Luck

| I get off work at 1 am. I have a 45 mile trip home. I regularly cruise the Jetta at 100 - 110. There's very little traffic on the interstate so it's easy to cruise for 10-15 minutes at a stretch. These cars drive the autobahn at well over 100 mph so it's not really being pushed. |

Break-In?
JK. They were fine, broken-in and had been running for a month or two with no problems. These top end runs were just a one-time thing to see how fast they would go. Just a few minutes was enough.

I drove from Springfield to OKC and back (288 miles each way) at 75-90mph in my bug. Fun ass trip, If I do say so.
...though I had the window down and an unbaffled stinger, so I was deaf by the time I got back... _________________ «•Lie Down... Good Bug•» |
