| For those of you familiar with the Salt Lake area, I did 100 uphill over point of the mountain on my 1990 kawasaki zephyr. Pretty windy. |

In the late '70s I worked for the GM proving ground in Mesa, AZ. We sometimes clocked over 1000 miles in an 8-hour shift while abuse-testing Corvettes. That was on a 5-mile circular track. Nothing like the sense of turning right for 1000 miles and not having gone anywhere.
In a VW? I've seen the high side of 80 a couple of times in my '71 bay, but normally keep it around 60. Our '69 bug touches 80 fairly regularly while driving the freeways, but is much happier at about 70.
In my youth, I took a 30 mile trip in a friend's 911 in less than 15 minutes. It was legal, too, as we were in Nevada before the 55 was imposed. |

| I maintained 100mph in my Fastback during a trip to Miami a few years back. The stretch of I-95 from Port St. Lucie to PGA Blvd in West Palm Beach (about 40 miles) is generally a low traffic, cop free area. I had to slow down after that due to traffic and construction, but it was a great ride. Smooth like buttah! Of course, it did have a 2110 in it at the time. |

I used to test drive new New Beetles for a dealership, when the first few 1.8 Turbo Beetles came in in the early 2000's something, I had one up to 125 on a twisty bumpy 2 lane back road, I think they had top speed limiters around 130-133 or so, plenty fast for anything Beetle shaped, on the early cars the rear wing "deployed" at 85, sounded like a parachute opening up at that speed, the newer ones open around 40 now, not as dramatic sounding
my dad had a lot of cool cars when I was in high school, I used to drive his 1959 Cadillac Hearse to school, top speed was 106 and It would hit that speed on a regular basis, I had his 1929 Model A Ford up to 75 quite a few times too, usually downhill on a dirt road thru a one lane bridge, on 30 year old 4.50X21 inch tires
I had a 1966 Beetle while I was in the Air Force in Germany with the original 1300 engine and it would do 80 forever, I saw the speedo needle so far past 90 a few times that it was past the turn signal arrows _________________ There is an idea of a Billmetric; some kind of abstraction. i once went 95 mph in my 1972 bus that's the fastest i've ever gone and i dont plan anytime soon unless its downhill on going that fast ever again. This other time down hill i went about maybe 100 i got pulled over and the cop couldnt believe it. He said he had never ever pulled over a bus for speeding he left me off with a warning in this other car a 2002 passat i went 120 i dont know how long but i know that i went from Orange County to San Fransisco in 4 hours and 30 minutes |

90 in my 87 cabriolet, could have gone a little faster but it sounded like the top was gonna fly off.
95 in my 2003 mitsu outlander all wheel drive, she just wouldn't go any faster.
110 in my 1960 Cadillac. Felt like doing 60, smooth as could be.
118 in my 1998 supercharged Riviera.
124 riding in my friends 1994 Pontiac GTP, through traffic in KC. _________________ "I became an archaeologist because I wanted to drive around in a big Land Rover, smoking, cursing, and finding treasure." - Carmel Schrire
