Maybe I misread your "1./2" as 1/2. Did you mean 1-1/2?

I use 1 1/2, making +/- adjustments from that point and resetting to 1 1/2 for baseline if needed.

OOOPPPSSS typo that my old eyes did not notice.

It is one half (1/2) out from the bottom following yours and what some other people have, unless I read wrong.

For the madspaniard I'd say try your front shocks at 1 turn out from stiffest. I do have my front shocks at 0.5 turns out, but mine are "broken in" and probably not as stiff as new ones.

Thanks Ryan,

If that is the case I might just wait a bit more to break them in with more driving, I currently have exactly the same set up as you in the front (0.5 turn (180 degree) Koni/Moogs) so I should see an improvement in harshness over time. The one thing that is different is tires, I have the Michelin HydroEdge that will soon be replaced with Nokian Hakkas probably.

I have this set mounted, well, almost fully mounted,

I need to create the front spacer Under the strut.

Someone made a mockup pipe and steel flat bar welded together spacer.. but I ran several searches and couldnt find the link..

Anyone have any ideas on the specs or a snapshot of the thing?

I am using Gowesty 2wd lifting springs..

So far, the rear Konis are as long as the Bilsteins, but the fronts are nearly 2 inches shorter, so this spacer is something I can weld up tommorrow before I drop it down on the ground if someone could shoot me a PM, or will check this thread again soon.

Thanks!

Al

Yea, the Bilstein OE bolted right back in when I installed the 2wd lifting spring.

Fully extended, you can tell this Koni is shorter.

I'm just needin a hand with the spacer. Wont be using the stud extender, sounds like too much grief. I have a MIG, this could be pretty easy to build a shackle lift sorta application for getting the strut mounted correctly, extending its overall "throw".

Anyone have a link for the welded up pipe, and flat stock that was used to build the spacer?

Thanks!

Al

send PM to samba member 1621. He is the only one that I know has Konis with 2WD GoWesty lift springs. He is living in Japan now and doesn't visit The Samba as much as before but always gets back to you.

Well, my konis are in..

While the van is flat on the ground, with GW 2wd lifting springs, I can nearly put the lower strut bolt in, had the lady jump in, and they went right in.

However, I'm going to be building the shackles for the additional 1.5 inch of travel, but they did work.. again, this is on a 1990 vanagon multivan/westy.

does anybody know if the adjusting mechanism of the Konis will be ruined or destroyed if you bottom out your suspension?

Hey Alex,

Just saw your PM and sent a reply before seeing this thread. Sounds like you've got things in order though. Good to hear.

Enrique,

No worries on the shocks, you're not going to blow them out unless you're jumping your van. I would personally try avoiding the bottoming out and get an extension on as soon as I could though. In the meantime I'd also drive it gingerly to prevent damage.

Hi!

Thanks again,

I'm really lookin for a bolt on application vs welding on the strut..

That link had a spacer used on the rear, I'd like to get them for both front/rear..

When your suspension is bottomed out, the shock shaft is not the limiting factor. There are separate bump stops to handle the bottoming force, and unless the stops are modified there should be plenty of extra travel in the shaft before damaging the adjuster.

I'd be careful adding an extension to the shaft, though. With this shaft extension it's possible you might bottom the shock shaft before using the rubber bump stops.

The front konis top out badly with gowesty 2wd lifted springs on an 85 westy.

running Bilsteins now, but I find them a bit too soft.

Here is a solution for konis. The shipping quote to the U.S is £5GBP

That is super interesting, I've never seen anything like that before, very clever.

I have been using these for a few years now.
There are a couple of different sources, but none here in the US.

If anyone wants to sell me a pair, this is really the only thing from allowing the Konis to be the real deal. Course a rear shackle lift would also be spot on.

These Konis are NIGHT AND DAY different than Bilstein.

Course, I also tossed some front/rear addco and all urethane.. and its all very very tight.

I turned em all the way in, then backed out 1 3/4 turn, so.. hard to beleive they could get harder.

Paired with the GW lift 2wd spring, I find the setup so far to be pretty damned good.
