Hey, I am not really a type 3 guy, but I was looking through Ebay today when I found this nice looking squareback, upon looking through the pics, I looked at the pic of the floor shifter for the automatic, check it out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-VW-Squareback-...dZViewItem

I thought it was weird that the automatic didn't have a "D" it just has a 1,2,3. Could someone shed some light on this?

It is a 3 speed automatic. What is weird about that. If D = Drive, does R = Race?? J/k
I don't see any major issues with the car, but right now the price seems it is selling about where it should. $3K.

Yes, just like any other automatic. Or, if you want, you can start in 1 and shift it up and down manually. Just don't over rev the engine.
