Looks homemade to me. Look at the space between the "arrows" and the ring in the middle. Also the "arrows" don't line up with the number very well. |

I was one of the bidders. As you stated, the arrows don't look right. Also, wouldn't a '54 be in KPH? _________________ '63 Ragtop |

That is the second one I have seen like that now. This guy in town bought a 54 oval that was owned by the same lady for 30 years. When I got a chance to see it I thought for sure the speedo was from a bus. After looking at the back it had a bug part number, was dated 54 and looked like it had never been opened up. Would be hard to believe that someone put a bus face on this speedo. Maybe this is a 54 US oval only speedo.

Why would VW do something like that? It doesn't really make much sense to me to offer two types of bug speedometers. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Remember, back in the 50's the semaphores were not legal in certain states. The blinkers were optional until May 55. Perhaps this was a special equipment piece in 54. Seems dumb that someone would open it up and make it just look like that for no reason. _________________ Kevin "Wiggy"

It looked like bus to me, but it's hard to argue with a part number and a date on the back. That 54 has semaphores. |

I've seen several of those speedo's before, and this exact topic has been covered in the past. Richard Shriver (2Kabrios) has one several years ago in his parts stash. They all have one thing in common, they are all dated 1954 |

In Progressive Refinments, it lists 15,000 cars fitted with speedos with different control lamps. Maybe it is one of those speedos?????
From 1st - 3rd november 1954 chassis numbers 1-0741525 to 1-0745941. |
