I was wondering what it would take to swap out the front apron on a late model like my 73' square and replace it with a earlier pre-68 front apron? im sort of kicking myself now for getting this 73' because i really like the look of the rounded off noses on the early models... _________________ Devin

Its not that it would be all that hard to do, but a big pain in the ass to do right. My advice, stick with what you got, fix it up and sell it and get what you want. True, earlier cars are more "desirable", but I know plenty of folks that will drive a well maintained late model. Rather than hacking up a perfectly good car and Frankenstein-ing it into something that has no value, keep it for a while then sell it and get what you want later. _________________ Jim in Sacto -

I agree with jimmy
to do what you want, you will have to clip the entire front end - windshield forward... and then weld it back on perfectly straight....
better to simply fix or sell your late model and buy an early.... _________________ póg mo thóin

bolt some early blades on your late car and roll it. Just thought I'd beat that dead horse again. _________________ OGST

do the early bumpers just bolt right up to the late brackets? what would it take to place some early blades on my73? _________________ Devin

firstly, you will need early brackets -- the late models are too wide
the rears pretty much are a bolt on, but the front will take either some fabrication or bending of the brackets... _________________ póg mo thóin

Still think that white one with the shaved hood looks pretty good...for a boat nose. The bullet lights really help the overall effect. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

I am not sucking up. Could probably use some parts now that the Notch is coming back from paint. I need an early model driver's side door window...

I am. I really think you pulled it off, Neil. The first time I saw it, it took me a minute to realize it was a boat nose. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

What looks cool is no bumpers on a late Square. Don't think its legal, but I think it looks neat. _________________ Jim in Sacto -

I agree, early bumper fits on late 3's look cool!
When I bought my '69 'sharknose' it was the first type 3 I'd ever seen (or noticed, more accurately).
So to me, that body style looks very natural, although not, (understandably) to many type 3 owners, who view the later body modifications as detrimental to the look.
Having said that, I'm glad that mine's got the earlier interior (pinhole dash, hornring wheel, lowbacks) as I love a car with a vintage feel.
But if I was going to do that bumper thing, I'd fill the indentations on the panels at the same time (I think it's been done on the lovely tan square and the sexy blue one). JMO |
