I have one. It sucks ass. I wouldn't even put it in my winter car - it's that bad plus it's based on the late model look so it has that speaker grill thing in the centre. It's the same crap everyone else has but CIP says it's "theirs".
That foam doesn't shrink, it f#$%in' mutates totally out of shape.
Do yourself a favour and just find a decent OEM late dash and use that one. It fits and it's OE. No problems trying to stretch it over your gauges with a heat gun and a large bottle of KY |

the problem is everyone out there is trying to get like $500 for OEM dashes, Thats more then I paid for my square back.
The prices on OEM dashes are getting ridicules and I think we need to get a suppler of decent reman dashes. |

Late dashes are still reasonable it's the early ones that are big $$ but yeah I agree, there needs to be a new manufacturer for these. |

Exact same shit, different day. I have one of those things that I picked up as part of a lot in the 1980s still "NOJ" (New Old Junk) in my parts stash. It'll ALMOST fit if you let it sit in the sun on a really hot day for a couple hours and install it with the windshield out. They want $100? PM me and take this one off my hands for half that plus shipping. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

There is a "new one" in the classifieds right now for $50. I wouldn't take it if it was free! I bought one of the aftermarket ones about a year ago. I tried everything to get it to fit. I even tried to glue it down ! It took a long time to get rid of that piece of junk. I found a nice orignal dash here on the Samba, for $150 including shipping.

Yeah the repro dashes are crap, but not as bad as everybody is saying.
I got mine in a bulk parts buy and installed it. It looks better than the mutilated dash that came out of there but nowhere near as good as oem.
I would like to replace it with a good oem dash someday but that's not a high priority. _________________

Cool-- thanks for the info. I'm totally gonna go buy one!
Actually, the dash in my 64 isn't too bad... usual speaker grill cracks + p.o. balck silicon, but it's very minor.
What do NOS ones fetch when they come up? Just curious, it's a driver for sure. |

I have one of those upstairs in my garage. I wouldn't use it on a customer car, as it was too warped from sitting in the box. It was going to go into a 73 (it would have fit without too much screwing around), but I suggested he find another one (not warped). I won't even use it to replace my cracked and falling apart 71 dash pad. Someday, I'm going to smooth that one over with steel too, just like my son did his. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

The reason I don't want to spend big bucks is because my car is just going to be a daily driver and the dash I have now is cracked so bad its in 2 pieces.
I also plan to mount a tach on the dash and I would never drill holes in an OEM piece. I was almost thinking of reinforcing mine and using one of WCM's glue on dash pads. |

with companys making show quality repop dashes for american cars it is really agrivating that no one can come up with a nice one for a type 3 or any other vw for that matter. personally i like me og pad with a few cracks but then again a NOS dash pad would clash with the bondo and riped seats _________________ aircooled for life (1972 squareback cal look) |

I know this came up maybe a year or so ago... I don't know if anybody has actually used them but I think some Type 3'ers have gotten quotes, and it sounded extremely expensive to restore a dash.. well over $500. _________________ '54 Kombi | '57 356 Coupe | '57 Samba | '62 Notchback | '63 Beetle (36k Original Miles) | '66 Pigalle Sunroof Squareback | '70 Westy |

Yep I got a quote from them and yep it was like $500. Crappy part was they could not replicate the grain which made it useless to me. _________________

They are very expensive. I did mine but like Notchboy said they can't match the grain. _________________ Please PM me whatever you are smoking!
