What is the general opinion in here when it comes to old Assistents.
Keep patina or refurbish and re-paint?
Will an old Assistent have higher value if you do nothing, providing it's technically OK? _________________ Current:

I'm now waiting for my "new" Assistent bought from an old mechanic (it's in the mail). He told me that he got it in the 70's. I only got this one picture of the cart. But looking in old catalogues and reading on this forum, I see that the 166 TS from the 70's should have had a grey top trey, this one is black. Can anyone tell me if this is a 70's model or something else?
|
The Assistent is now in my garage
The top has been re-painted with a dark grey color. The original is light grey, as in the catalogue.
The previous owner bought it in 1971, so it's a genuine veteran Assistent.
It's in good shape, the only thing missing are the keys. Does anybody know if the keys are specific for each Assistent, or if one key fits all 166TS'.
Does anyone have a key I can buy, or know where I can get one? |
Your local ( proper) locksmith should be able to help ,
I just took my lock off and got a new key cut to suit , it's a bit of a odd lock unique to the TS models but a good locksmith will do it ,
The lock itself is held on by two long hollow rivets |

I just brought in a few items from Europe/UK. Two Essen trailers, three trailer hitches and these two Assistants. The only things Ive ever owned that were Hazet in the past were a couple of the early Type 3 tool kits. I've always liked these caddy's so fianly decided to get one-two of them.
From what I read I have a 60's era one and a 70's era one? Im not sure how to ID them yet and was hoping to get pinion or two here. Plans are to possibly restore one or both and maybe sell one? Not sure yet as Im still playing around with them.

Hello,
I recently bought a model 162. It has yellow brakes, the orginal tyres.
Only thing is that someone painted completely red.
I dismanteld the asisstant and want to powdercoat everything.
Is it correct that the blue color is RAL 660-2 and the grey color 9006?

I missing just the screw inside the knobs.
And i have two black knobs. Is this correct? |

Saw a Assistent 160 pre-'65 with only 1 shelf between bottom and top for sale (no stool):
Colors don't see right, but it's pretty rare and old. |

Cool video. Wish Hazet did more promotional stuff like that!
A few pages back I posted my 70s Assistent that I was planning to repaint. I still need to do the logo, but I'm looking for a local place to find near correct colors. I used a textured black on the top instead of gloss grey, and picked up some vinyl sheeting with almost the same original texture for the top.
I used Rustoleum Caribbean blue as suggested in a post somewhere above, it turned out great. Bought the paint last summer, but the problem is that now Rustoleum seems to have stopped making that color. I'd like to paint some other stuff. Have you guys found any other "cheap" options for the blue?

A good paintshop can scan a sample of the Hazet blue. That's a way to get yourself as much correct color coded paint as you like |

If your Assistent are made before 1965 (small a), then I can supply the colourcode from the scan of a NOS desk stand, we chosed the one that was most similar.
If your Assistent are made after 1965, then you can find the colour codes on www.hazet.de

So the blue changed in '65?
When I compare my early 90's Assistent (right on photo) with my '52 Hazet 100 (large wall box), the blue of '52 seems to be a bit lighter (left on photo).
Actually the pre-65 blue is a bit more real light blue than the more greenish-blue after '65.
Is that similar to the difference you observed?

Yes, the light blue colour changed. The dark blue and the yellow was the same as before.
Yes, a big difference. Its easy to see on your photo. |
