^^^ See that hole on the end of the springplate? It is right in the middle of the four bolt holes, and it has a notch cut out of it to the rear. That is the one I was talking about.
Rustbus is right, just do whatever you can to keep the stress off the brake hose while doing your work. I have used a light colored spray paint to mark the location of the rear bearing hub in relation to the spring plate. Once you're all done, just give it all a quick shot of black and it's all purdy again. Some chisel marks or a dab of white out works to mark the baseline location of your torsion bar/springplate connection. _________________

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the pic! Awesome re-bar jack stands too. Home made?
Look at all those splines! Really.... just rotating ONE of those amounts to 2 inches drop? Amazing.
I'll definitely make sure to not stress the brakes hose or CV joints... and to mark everything, per Bentley. Stuart is probably going to help.... I bet we can do both sides in under 2 hours, including clean up and photos - what do you think? I bet he can do his side in 30 minutes - the guy should work pit crew.
Hole noted - wurd to the Early Bay drivers. Should be already open for me I guess. Thanks again, guys. _________________ 78 Kombi, 65 Bug, 69 Baja Bug, 63 Camper Van, 66 Bug, 72 Bug, 60 Ghia |

Thanks. I didn't actually sand it. I stripped it with aircraft stripper so I could see how much bondo was on it and where. |

^^^ What a dream bus! Nice job.
As soon as my just-in-case spring plate bushings arrive, I'm going to take my rear end down a notch. I have a pretty precise measurement I'm looking for to get the bus even, so I'll be doing a combo of inner and outer splines. Anyone have some tips on knowing how you're indexing the INSIDE splines? Somebody said "by feel" - anything more to say about that? You pull it out just enough until you can turn it an then just FEEL it bump bump bump as you rotate it? Sounds like it would be very easy to lose count, skip one, etc...
Any tips would be appreciated! _________________ 78 Kombi, 65 Bug, 69 Baja Bug, 63 Camper Van, 66 Bug, 72 Bug, 60 Ghia |

That's pretty much it. Make sure you clearly mark your starting point with a stripe of paint or a chisel mark so you can get back to square one of you screw up. Also, a ten dollar protractor from the hardware store helps as a guideline for the angle, using the chart that was previously posted.
It really is not that difficult, and once you get going on it, you'll figure it out pretty quick. You may have to do it more than once to get it exactly right. That is why folks often pay for adjustable spring plates. they can be dialed in more easily to achieve the ideal height. They are not necessary, they just make it easier. _________________

| Nice, how much was shipping? Did they discount the tax that is included in their domestic UK pricing since you're not in the UK? |

They did remove the tax. It was 187.50 plus 60.00 for shipping
For a total of 247.50 of course that's in Pounds(UK money)
I can't seem to find the credit card receipt showing the conversion
But just type in dollars to pounds on Google for the converter
It seems like from what I've researched the adjustable spring plates
Are the way to go in the rear, we're saving up to build a king/link pin
For the front now. Plans to go super low on this bus _________________ 1966 Slammed Vert

Would a late bay lowered front beam (75 or 76) be compatible with a 70 bay so I can get some lowered action and disk brakes or is it more complicated than that? _________________ 1967 Bug aka "Junior" (SOLD)
