ok to the questions
what is this
is this a drain or a vent or what? it is on both sides of the rear of the car
is this the proper place for the shift pattern sticker
thanks for the help and I am back to work |

No 1 looks lik an aftermarket horn, or at least sounds like it from "tu tone chimes"
No 2 is a drain for all the crap that goes in through the vents.
No 3, I don't know if that's correct. Nice shifter, though. _________________ "In order to create, you have to destroy." |

That trailer hitch was mounted to the cross member under the bell housing. But you are missing part of it. There was also a piece that went across between the bumper braces to support the load at the rear. The cross member pulled the load, and the bumper braces carried the tongue weight. _________________ Society is like stew. Ole' tu-tone comes away second best in grudge-match with newfangled speed hump...

Wow it’s amazing that someone would put a horn there
Thanks for the help
I drove it 30 miles last night with no problems
Then this morning drove it to the doctor and went to leave and it would not start. I was in a parking garage so I just pushed it out of the parking spot and down the ramp I went and started right up (push start). Got home and went to give my roommate a ride so we jumped in the square same thing cranked to there was no more power. Jumped in my other car and went to school. Was back to the house in 15 minutes and was going to push the square into the garage but gave it one last try and BAM started right up
Ah good old vw |

Could also be the starter bushing. My 66 was doing the same thing. Real sporadic then quit altogether. I finally bought a new starter and it did the same thing so changed the bushing and its been fine ever since. |

In my '67 Square the shift pattern is on the ashtray, but it pulls from underneath, so no knob. My '66 Fasty has the same ashtray as you but there is no visible shift pattern sticker. So I'm thinking that it was possibly dealer installed? Would account for varying locations or absence of it.
What color blue is that Square? _________________ DSD

are you primering it to prepare for a paint job soon or are you primering it just to primer it?
if you aren't going to be painting it anytime soon why wouldn't you just rock that nice OG patina? _________________ '54 Kombi | '57 356 Coupe | '57 Samba | '62 Notchback | '63 Beetle (36k Original Miles) | '66 Pigalle Sunroof Squareback | '70 Westy |

It looks like an American flag, but the primer is last on the list
Well after cleaning the grounds it is still having problems starting
It is very sporadic, could it be the battery or charging system?
pulled the battery, it was low on water and almost dead. so we will see tomorrow if a freshly charged battery helps. |
