it was a very "not so" quick fix to fit this lights, I really hate the big ones, and I needed to cover those meteorite impact holes on the fiber Mad

You could paint the metal to match or contrast for the time being until you can fill the holes and do the repair correctly.

As long as its street legal, Cyborggy looks good! (C;

Went from rear torsion to coilover. I'm stealing my son's old baja account.

This was my christmas present to the buggy, replacing the outer right front wheel bearing. I believe the old one had some cavity problems

in replying in to RedBaronofRedBud, I'll live it as is, just hope the inspectors on the mandatory annual inspection don't give me any problems

I have been working on a simple 1600 Single Port for the monocoque for driving across the US in July. Today while putting the long block together I broke a piston ring. In all the years of building engines, that is a first..YEH...now I have to buy new rings.

I guess some days you get the bear...and other days, the bear gets you

Finally took some time to work on my own buggy for a change. Getting ready for the annual safety check inspection before the end of this month and had to address the new & stricter requirements. First off, installed a reverse light. I'm glad I added an extra wire inside the harness when I built the electrical system. Instead of the coil's terminal 15, I ran it from the dash fuse box to the nosecone switch. Next was a pair of hand-operated windshield wipers. Fabricated a pair of brackets to attach to the knock-off B&K frame mounts, found a pair of stainless steel windshield wiper arms at the local wrecking yard, and bolted them up. I hope these will pass the inspection. One last item that took a bit of creativity was the fan belt guard. All stainless steel; mounting plate and perforated sheet to keep fingers out of harms way. I'm headed out to have the inspection done tomorrow after work, hoping the rear tires that stick past the fenders will not prevent the car from passing the certification...

Made the most of the holiday, drove about 50 miles and got some parts from a vw mechanic that stocks parts. Then went to a friends auto shop and put the buggy up on the rack and changed the steering damper and it needed changing the old one was leaking at the seam. Then put a new belt on it the old had probably been on there since 09 when the engine was put in. Bought new rubber pads for the brake and clutch but dang those are hard to get on may have to wait till warmer weather so they'll flex more. I also found a wire loose on the pos battery terminal that went to the volt reg, it was causing radio noise. Love listening to the tunes cruising.

Didn't do nothin yesterday
But today I put in an Empi trigger shifter and put a 12V accessory outlet in the dash
I also tried again to remove the transaxle drain plug and failed... again. So I just topped it off
There's a tranny support bracket mounted directly in front of the drain plug and I can't get a good shot at it. I've tried every tool and even made some of my own
I'm gonna have to take that bracket off to do it or just take the thing to a shop and tell em to change the fluid

I must have measured my pan getting ready for the first cut a dozen times now. Each time I get ready to cut, my OCD kicks in (being an engineer sucks sometimes).

Today I measured (again) but this time I hung a laser.

I was surprised (not really) at the difference between my original measured lines and the laser lines. The lines at the bottom of the tunnel match but was off 7/16" at the top.

Spent most of the day removing the sound deadening material from the floor pan before measuring.

This lead to a new addition to my "Bucket List": Travel to Germany to meet the vw employee that installed the sound deadening material, shake his hand and tell him; "Job well done!"

Thought I'd never get that stuff off!

That sound deadening material comes off pretty easy in close to zero degree weather. Once you get it started, a wood chisel and a hammer will chip that stuff off. It becomes quite brittle at those temperatures.

Agreed......... I did the passenger side a while back when it was still hot. Yesterday was the coldest weather we've had in southern Cal but it was a far cry from "close to zero"

First cuts to the pan today. The one task I've agonized over the most.
