I love it when a part... even sitting in the drive way un-installed already makes your car look better... or FASTER.... lol
Great work |

This weekend's buggy work included:
1) Finish front brake job/wheel bearing repack and bled brakes.
2) Install fuel pressure regulator, filter, fuel pressure gauge and new fuel line.
3) Test/inspect/clean needle and seat and carb float.
4) Make up and install new battery cables. Old cables had trashed clamps, corroded ends and were a little too short. I had a good supply of 4 AWG cable in my tote of boat supplies, so I installed new lugs (also in my inventory) and new battery post clamps. Enlarged the hole in the body to handle the larger cables and protected them with some split loom zip tied to the cables where they passed through the body.
5) Changed the oil again to get rid of fuel contaminated lube.
I'm getting pretty close to taking her for a spin, and I can't wait. |

Bought new set of tires for the buggy; last set that Tirerack had available in matching tread pattern...

Hard to believe, but the selection of tires for 14" and 15" rims is getting limited. I had to go with a similar tire for my spare as I couldn't find an exact match anymore. |

Agreed -
I just bought 185/60-15 & 235/70-15 set of these - they offer 14"/15" versions.

Those look nice. I might look at those for some 15x6 wide five rims I have. I already have two sets of tires and rims for my buggy, one for the dirt and one for street. I bought a spare for my front off road tire because it will work fore and aft and "the sticks" is the last place you want a flat. Had to order it from the midwest.
Sadly, at the rate I put on miles (maybe 3-4,000 a year) I'm more likely to need to replace them all because of rot and weather checking, rather than than actual wear! |

Twas a nice day in the Ole North State Sunday
.
So decided to FINALLY wrap up the neighbors Buggy.. .. so I can collect.
It was just supposed to be a "Make engine look good and fix wiring behind dash"....
But...
I swear.... I got to get rid of this thing... as everytime I think Im finished.. I find something else I just cant let go..
OCD-ADHD...
Yesterday..
After a day of lego repairs... ya know the kind that you just keep adding and adding to...
Backed it out... and the left Kadron idle jets become blocked...
Back in.. to clean the jet....
Burnt my forearm on the new Empi Ceramachrome dual cannons...
Its Miller time... _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

Hmmm...ok...I'll bite. Where is your tank located that you needed to remove the body? Just curious. _________________ Or you can call me………Tim

Heard it run for the first time ever! Did more body work, mounted the windshield and today tested the new tailights and I made a wire kit for it.

OK, its up front, like normal bug, but my fiber as no hood, so to access the tank the fiber must come off, when the photo was taken the tank was no longer there
my fiber is like a monocoque but on a bug pan _________________ Be curious, dismantle it all, reassemble it, go for a ride! |

Well..... The end is near (FOR THIS YEAR) of my work on my Neighbors Lil' Blue Buggy.
I cleaned up the engine to make it much better...
and repaired the red spaghetti of a nightmare of wiring behind the dash..
Needless to say... I kept finding things... during its four month span at my shop.
I ended up removing a rotting wooden floor console that went from the shifter to the front bulk head.
It made it really feel cramped up front.
Judging by the abundance of change I found in various locations in the old console... I decided to build a little under dash storage box... 1 for small storage...2 to give it base mounting for the radio brackets added and new fuse panel location.
I really dont like the radio in the upper dash placed by a previous owner (or 12), but... wasnt moving it.. but did secure it.
The radio was just flopping around... so glued it down and made brackets....while standing on my head.
Moved the antenna from the floor...... to out on the front axle beam.
Lots of little things added, removed and moved during the wiring repairs.
She lost the keys.... new ign switch.
Battery cut out added.
It had a toggle for the turns.... changed it to an actual lever.
Toggle on the left for headlamps, toggle on the right for fog lamps, toggle hanging for wipers..so...built a small panel... to move headlamp and wiper toggle.. and moved fog lamps to a floor mounted dimmer switch..
Added a license lamp...who knows where the old one was..
Fixed all lights so they now work.. 100%..
New fuse panel... that holds ATO fuses...
Moved the most stupid whopper of a dash ground stack I've ever seen..
Pulled engine... removed all tin for paint matching by the owner.
When they came back...the chrome fan shroud wasnty painted...just cleaned it... Not too sure why.. The tins were all painted..
The shround is tucked way up so its not really seen too much, but I would have painted it.. No big deal... ... moving on...
Cleaned out carbs.
Adjusted valves, changed oil and filter.
Built a fuel filter bracket added new filter
Flushed fuel tank (rust)... I guess the fuel tank will be later .. If it dont rot out first. Best to wait until its a problem IMO
Routed all new fuel line from tunnel to engine.
Reinstalled engine...
Moved rear seat belt mounting.. as they previously bolted to the top of the engine... and made it tough to remove the engine....
Added new Ceramachrome Empi exhaust.
Nice fitment... but these things are LOUD!!... (and I like dual cannons)..
Battery has been DOA... ..
Yesterday.. added a new shifter boot
Gave it a vacuum and welcome bath...
Went for a spin...
Its a head turner... and pretty quick..
Stiff up front though... ...
This is the car that made me decide to build my own....
Its pretty sweet... Nice an low..

Used a piece folded piece of roof flashing, some foil tape, and a binder clip to fix the reverse lockout on my Scat short throw shifter.

I finally drove it! Well, for a little while, until it stalled out with a flooded carb right in front of my house. The little car is pretty easy to push... |

|
|
A small task that has been on my list. I converted my small 1962 front turn signals to a double prong socket. This way I can use a double filament bulb and have both a running light and a brighter turn signal light. I used the 1967 socket base (plastic part with two prongs and two spade terminals) and inserted them in my smaller turnsignal base/bulb holder. I wanted to keep the period look as well as gain the running light.
