Drove the piss out of my buggy on fire roads all day. Last 90 degree day my area is likely to see for many months. Going to clean it up today and put it away....time to spend some time working on it.

I did get all the way through the driving season without a single issue that required me to take it off the road for repairs. My philosophy is that during the warm months I don't take on any projects that require me to disable the car, unless it is an issue which will strand me or damage the car in some way if I don't attend to it.

Had a super fun day yesterday! Left the house at 5:55 AM, in the dark, met up with a fellow Buggy buddy, drove the the VW and Porsche Reunion in Cincinnati OH. The show broke several records for attendance, swap meet, car count and was a really nice event.

Beautiful Drive, 424 miles round trip. Bruce and Winnie Meyers picked the Best Buggy. Mine! Very cool and a treasured trophy.

Picked up a few items for future buggy builds in the swap area, then looked like Sanford and Son on the trip home.

Well the past few days I have been getting the El Tejon Manx ready for Manx on the Banx I pulled the seats out to have them re padded and had new covers put on them and the frames painted , so while the seats were out , I POR the floor pans and the underbelly of the chassis , it had not been done in 45 years and was showing a little surface rust , and we know how the salt from the beach run sticks too your buggy, Oh and of course I forgot to wear gloves and had black hand for three days !
I also installed front lap seat belts into the buggy , and got my seats back today , they look awesome!
Also while I had the seats out I waxed the inside and outside of the tub , it does shine!

Another improvement ... Rear Body mounts. Got tired of the body hitting the shocks on bigger bumps.

I needed to make a few small changes to the Puzzle Manx for the up coming trip to the North Carolina Outer Bank Islands for the MOTB '14 event. Chassis needed greased up front, re-indexed in the rear, lower rear shock bolts sleeved so they would not rattle, brakes adjusted, body sanded and buffed, good general cleaning.

In addition, on the ECVW trip to CA and back, my 2165 engine did not have the breathing system set up correctly and would puke oil out of the over-fan shroud breather tank, then get sucked into the cooling fan and sprayed about. The left head was catching the windage off of the crank and pushed up the push rod tubes filling the valve cover, then pressuring it up the Valve Cover (VC) tube into the breather tank.

A long time ago, racer Muffler Mike studied the same problem and came up with an innovative solution. He sealed the left VC, then tapped the rear bottom and routed a oil line into the front of the sump. His idea was to take the pressurized VC and push the oil back where it is needed, the sump. After testing, it worked really well for him. So, I bought a different set of VC's, had a plate welded to the bottom, tapped it for a -8 AN fitting and ran it to the sump. After several HARD pulls to 70 MPH, no oil mist.

Next, the muffler. The trip west will let you know if you like a loud exhaust. I no longer do and need to change something but hated the thought of buying a new header. wvbowtieman came up with a sweet idea for his Manx he is building and I tested it for him. Installed a $ 25.00 turbo tube from Summit Racing and a mandrel bent 90* ell to exit. Makes it quieter when cruising, but gets LOUD when the skinny peddle is pressed hard.

Late in the afternoon, the day turned out decent and I had to try these modifications before just taking off for the OBX, so, some back road West Virginia driving was in order. It is a pretty fall right now.

The old muffler system was a downward pointing collector and into a SS Super Trap. I guess since it exited in a 360* pattern, I heard it forward.

I need to re-pack the tools, install the soft enclosure and we are ready to leave for the OBX early Tuesday Morning.

The noise from the loud pedal is most likely your carbs barking. Especially if you have dual two barrels

I've been looking at those... just have yet to see the inside of any..
When I worked at an exhaust shop we could get baffled bombs for 12 bucks each.. and they worked well... They were basically glass packs with an internal dual split tube chamber...

Id hate to spend the coin and be the same noise level as my current baffled steel Case tractor mufflers... Laughing
