I've had beetles, a ghia & a single cab & I Just picked up a 66 squareback. It's my first type 3. I'll post pics soon. It needs a motor, exterior paint & some little things but it's mostly OG. Very Happy

The early squares look good, and handle well. Enjoy!

Early = '69 and older? or is '67 the magic number, like with busses? I've been looking at a '70...

Early is up to 1969 inclusive... late is 1970 onwards.
This is due to the major (relatively) body change in 1970!

Ahh, but it was for the better. Very Happy They increased the tunk space, stiffened the front for controlled collapse in an accident, AND improved the aerodynamics, for better gas milage, and top speed. The late models don't get so light at the higher speeds. The air flow is around the car instead of over and under the car.

Yeah, I do like the look of the earlier ones. Cool bumpers, smaller front turn signals, etc. BUT for now it's just dreaming; since I sold my bus. Crying or Very sad

That's all cosmetic and can be fixed. Just look at the pictures in this thread:

Here are some pictures. I just finished lowering the front to match the back (the PO did the back but not the front Confused ) Everything was loose & disconnected up front but it's pretty complete, it even has some new parts like the tie rod ends & brake lines that were just never completely installed. It's missing the front brake calipers though, are those expensive or hard to find? It looks like it had a small engine fire at one time. As soon as everything is together & working this car will replace my beetle as a daily driver.

Nice Square.

I like the youngest models the most.

And most of all, parts are a little cheaper.... Razz

Is that the correct dash for a 66 ? My 66 has the dash with the small holes.
