Got my (mine for another 5 months till my son gets his license) 64 Square off the trailer and sitting in the driveway. I'm getting a good puddle of oil out of the rear seal I think. PO mentioned that it was leaking even though he had put a new seal in. Is this a chronic problem with the 3's or should I be pulling the rear and putting another seal in?
Also the car is currently running 195/60/14's on Porsche 5-lugs. Scrapes a little over bumps and tight turns in the back. Any suggestions that don't involve replacing the wheels/tires.

Did the PO lower it?
You could raise it a click or two.

it doesn't look lowered to me..? going up 2 clicks would be great for off-road
use, it might look a bit odd on the street .
i'm betting the wheels are not the proper offset for a T3 |

If he just put a seal in, and it leaks that much? Could be that he messed up the new seal. Worst case would be that the engine case is beat to death, and the thrust bearing is loose in the case, or has a leak between case halves. Check all the 13mm headed bolts near there , including the one that is quite close to the larger forward lower main case nut.
It could also be a trans leak from the input seal.

Did they use adapters for the 5 lug wheels? If so, you could get them in more by getting the correct aftermarket rear drums that are drilled for the 5x130 pattern. |

If it is rear axle seals that are leaking, Are they assembled right, and the axle nuts torqued properly???? _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

If you pull the engine to replace the seal again take a good look at the area on the crankshaft where the seal rides, it should be smooth with no damage or grooves/scoring from the seal. Main bearing wear would not normally cause the seal to leak that bad unless there is excessive wear and the crankshaft is moving around within the bearings instead of spinning true. |
