That's a sweet looking bus uberwagen! Nice score, what color are you going to paint it? just kidding |
No repaint, I hope! Maybe some touch ups to stop rust thru. I think a good body man could straighten the engine lid and not do very much damage to the paint. _________________ Al Brase

I plan to keep the original paint except in areas where rust perforation needs to be repaired. Those areas I plan to blend in with a single stage matched paint after the required repaires have been made.
I'm not quite sure what to do in areas where the paint is totally burned off, like the roof.
I guess I could either paint it to the original color, protect it with some kind of corrosion stopping spray, or possibly clear coat it.
Any thoughts?
As for the engine lid, I am going to see if I can find someone to straighten it. Or mabey someday I will come across an o.g. paint replacement... But like I said before, I'm not holding my breath
Thankfully the rear apron and bumper are still in excellent shape. they must have been taken off before the damage occured
Here is a shot showing the extent of the damage on the engine lid:

Since you already planning on doing some touch up why not remove all the rust on the roof and have it sprayed to match? There is no point in preserving rust.
As for the decklid it does not look that bad from the picture. The repair would only involve the very lower section enabling you to preserve most of the og paint and then match the remainder.
While its nice to preserve the og paint, its even more important to preserve what's under it, the metal, and nothing preserves metal as well as paint.

I told John I would take some pictures and post them here to give an update on the bus; so here we go:
Also 2 other stalled projects.
To be fair John is growing his family and building a screened sunroom on the back of his house. A happy wife is a happy home as they say.
Also one of my stalled projects:

I Just need to bend up some rockers on that 4' brake, and tack them on with my old Lincoln tombstone stick welder, and I'll be good to go. Also pictured is my pail of Zinsser Kills primer, which should be suitable for a nice durable base coat. |
