the painted wheels were silver rims and spokes and black background. No real paint code, just shiny silver and gloss black.
... the widths look like 5.5s and 8s. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

Size is indeed 5,5 and 8. I am going to take out the hart/center of the 8 and put them in standard 4 bug rim. _________________ 1964 Ragtop driver

before you go and waste good original sprint stars, especially the 8s, sell them to me. Not many of them around. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

Since I dont have a buggy I will just re rim them. DaveM couldn't swap so these 8s will turn in to 4s.
I see diferent collors used on Sprintstars and would like the original collorscheme... shiny silver is there in lots of shades.. _________________ 1964 Ragtop driver

I have a set of deeps also, can I just remove the centers and put them in the barrel of a stock wide 5 smoothie rim? _________________ OGJHC

Always check the inner size but if my sources are correct it is possible. I am going to measure the wheels tonigt so I can inform you about that. _________________ 1964 Ragtop driver

Inside barrel diameter is 33,5 centimeters in my 8j Sprintstar as well in standard 4j rim.
Kai, I know the place you talked about. When the 1970 bus is finished this summer I will go to the place with the 4j standard rim and the 8j Sprintstar and ask if he can make it happen. _________________ 1964 Ragtop driver

Kai or anybody else,
Can you post a picture of your 4,5j 5 lug Sprintstar with detailed the outerside of the rim?
I am trying to find out if they are very much different from the stock 5 lug 4j bug rim. (see topic in dutch overhere: http://www.flat4free.be/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15514)

Black is VW L 41
Silver.... Dunno....
Varnished after painting two colors.
4 lug 4.5" are pretty easy to find in Belgium.
5 lug wheels on the other hand...... |

Chrome.
Make sure you use a rim that has a bead lock on it, most 5 lug beetle rims don't. I had mine done at Stockton Wheel.
Don't forget, you will need one for a spare. |

Did you have stockton chrome the center and them weld it into a new outer rim? How much per wheel do they charge? I wnated to have mine chromed originally, but was going to just paint them for now. _________________ '67 squareback....under full resto
