the grip nice from the rear, but i onlyhad two at the time. i plan on buying 6, and studding 2 as my spare tires. |
for just a second I pictured you converting to a dually setup in the back. get some huge fender flair extensions and your set! |

I have been considering doing that for a while now. Gives you flotation on sand when you don't have a lot of horsepower and a heavy car.

Just got new shoes for the Magic Bus. I have 15" wheels and went with Nokian Hakka C Van 195/70-15's.
While I only drove them for about 30 miles, they are a huge improvement over the 2008 tires I had on before. _________________ 1970 Deluxe Sunroof Bay Brilliant Blue/Cloud White

i'll be installing a set of 15" Vanco 4 seasons on a split bus in the coming week(s).
I like the looks of them
Conti makes good stuff.
I went for the 14" BFG ATs, hands down--for my style of driving
The 14" Grabbers looked good too but made in USA pricey...ouch! _________________ 71 Ghia A/S - 88 Van A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T |

Yes. One side of them tire has the letters in white and the other side they are black (and raised). You have the choose to mount them white or black letters out. _________________ __________

My builder runs these and loves them. I also know several people running them on 4x4 trucks and they all give them a thumbs up. They are a good alternative to the KO _________________ __________

They actually according to the BFG site in canada are supposed to make the tire in a black wall version on both sides. That's what I am wondering if anyone has seen or purchased. BFG in canada has no stock. _________________ 1974 VW Combi 1800 Auto. Weber 32/36 |

I was just quoted $160 each for the BF Goodrich in 195/75R14 at my local Perfection Tire. I do a lot of business there, but I told them no thanks. _________________ nothing |

I'm trying to imagine regular town, country, highway driving with these and I don't see it. Not in terms of the engine performance (that's a whole different matter) but in terms of merely fitting in the wheel well without scrubbing, scraping, or (God forbid) jambing in the wheel well during full travel.
So what're these going on? _________________ "Consistent maintenance with quality products is the cheapest warranty you'll ever need."

215/75R15 on split bus wheels mounted to my stock height/suspension 68 bus. No rubbing issues.

That's slick. I've done the conversion of my 1977 CE1 to Subaru and that always brings with it the problem of running the engine at much faster RPM to just keep up with traffic. I can do math. The same engine in a similarly weighted vehicle with a stock Subaru 5MT transmission comes in at 3000RPM @ 65MPH. So the closer I can get to that RPM for cruise using an 091, the happier the engine will be, and therefore, so will I.
There are three options in the hopper: The General Grabber 27X8.5R14LT at 26.8 tall (3200RPM) Maxxis Bravo at 205R14C (27'1" tall, slightly higher RPM of 3300 to maintain 65MPH.
The final candidate is the venerable BFG T/A KO LT215/75R15 which will come in at 27.8" tall, nudging the cruise RPM down to only 3100RPM. AND would require me to buy 5x112x15" wheels, almost doubling the cost of the purchase.
I'm not really interested in going offroad presently: I rigging for a town & country cruiser. I buy all of my other tires from General (Altimax HP for sedans and wagons, never been disappointed. But the Grabber is principally an offroad tire, for a vehicle that isn't planned to be an offroader. The Maxxis tire is a city fellah tire, but costs in RPM.
I know the BFG T/A KO ( ran the original on my 1971 Bus in the 1990s and loved it) and I know the Grabber by reputation. It seems as if the Grabber is the sweet spot for getting RPM down while avoiding tire to suspension/body interference lock-to-lock and at a maximum suspension compression. I'm running stock tires that I'll be refinishing.
