Curtis485- Don't even worry (or delay a second) about getting it checked out by a mechanic. If it is the real deal (check the ID plate)- don't hesitate- just get the checkbook out. The engine could be a GEX with a full Empi dress up kit and it still doesn't affect the value up or down more than $80.50. The fact is, it runs. Buy it and ogle about it in the 'acquired' thread you open next week. |
Thanks for that. Am real curious how much check book is gonna be needed? |
Probably 2 check books.
Impossible to tell with one pic. What it's worth and what you can offer/buy it for are different questions, we can only help with the first. But not without more info. Good luck.
On a side note, I really like the painted emblem on a deluxe. Looks very nice there. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Not sure if this one would qualifies for this thread as I've known about the bus for almost a year.
When I started looking for another Split my local Air Cooled master/mechanic Pat at Vee-W Unlimited in Loveland, CO let me know he was considering selling his 62 Standard. No hunting really involved here as we share a storage spot and I've had to move this bus a few times to get to mine. One afternoon my better half was with me at the storage and I mentioned that the 62 might be a possibility. She immediately fell in love making pulling the trigger much easier. Since then as show by my above post I ran across a 21 window and was eagerly perusing,, in a conversation yesterday with the owner of the 21 window the gentleman told me he is wanting a couple more weeks before he's gonna let me take a look at it for possible sale. This cooled my heals just enough so I could think clearly. I decided I wanted a bus I could drive enjoy and not have to worry as much about where I'm gonna park when I take it to town. Trigger pulled I ended up bringing home this 62 Standard.
The bus had a few mods. Camper package in back, bigger engine 2110 (If I recall correctly) with duel Dellortos, non stock paint (should be Turkish green)
The bus is solid and rust free.
I'm feeling blessed to have the 62 Standard an owe a big thanks to Pat for letting me take her into my family. Couldn't be happier.
Plans are to get in it and drive... Later on down the road when my other projects come to a close I hope to restore the bus back to its original glory! I've already started looking for all the correct items needed to pull this off. Hopefully in a few years I can have it rolling Turkish again. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Sweet bus right there! Standards are the tits! As far as deluxes go, kool though they are, if mine was a deluxe it would have curtains all around and a bed in it! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

It was going to be turned into a BD 23 Deluxe, but the seller is a cool guy. He saw my enthusiasm for the bus 'as is' and I got lucky and he sold it to me. It might get bad bodywork and paintjob by me, but it will be running perfectly and back on the road for the first time in decades.
The mcode for trying to turn a pressed bumper 15 into a BD 23 has to be M666.
Some more pics;
BD Goodies!
Original paint peeking out. It's got this red primer all over it, and I'm hoping it comes off easily but if it doesn't I'm not worried. There's already lots of filler patches so I don't *think* it can be saved.
Nice floors!
Lots of random parts and a narrowed beam, plates, drop spindles.. hmm.

Looks like you might have saved it in the nick of time. Hopefully the bd parts will help defray some of the costs of bringing this one back to life. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Turning a non-barndoor bus into a barndoor is never a good idea nice to see the new owner doesn't have the same intentions as the old owner _________________ (20-024785)Ambulance (20-037784)truck (20-035850)panel

Did anyone ever pull this one to safety? I believe it was hunted by someone on a hunting trip last fall, but not for VW's. Please, do tell...

I PM'd the original poster shortly after he put up that picture asking if he needed any assistance in removal, but no response. _________________ Wanted : January '57 Palm Green Sand Green Bus Parts - Middle and Rear Seat Frames - flat back.
