Heading to trade a ragtop bug for the press bumper July-aug 58 built mango with Wife driving she spotted the 62 mouse grey bus on a trailer in guys drive way so we turned around and son comes out and I ask what the story on the bus he says his dad just picked it up and is going to scrap it I said I buy and pay double scrap weight just let me unload bug and back up to my trailer and I'll winch it up so dad comes out and says deal but cash only said done. Mango is cool too but the mouse grey put us behind Schedule so had to leave the sweet Og paint bus we planned the trip around. Well going to teach class then unload these then see which day to grab the 3rd bus. Owe wife and kids on this trip. |

I kinda always interpreted those numbers to mean a motor made the last day of April was just that, 02122221, but that motor was not put in a vehicle till some time later. 2 weeks sitting on a pallet or dolly and lined up in a queue till it was installed seems about right.
Has anyone ever compared known original motor number to the number of the chassis near the first or last day of the month?

From what I have seen, the numbers usually match up very closely, to the point where you can calculate it down to the same week or even days.
You are correct though on month starting/ending dates. If the vehicle was made around the month change, it could have an engine from the previous month in it but it will still be within a week or so of the numbers in the charts, if you do the math.
I don't claim to say every number is dead-on correct for the cars I have checked that had original engines, they always matched up very closely. _________________ How to Post Photos

For everyone sitting at home on their computers, 'wishing' they could find a bus, check this man out. He's out there, hustling in the cold and rain.
And having a GREAT time. Good job Bryce!
Makes me envious! Mouse Grey is second favorite color. _________________ "There is only one sin; disconnection from self." |

She's toasted but surprisingly very complete including middle seat, it's a shame to see it this bad but years of sitting in the damp woods took its toll. Got a lot of buses to come in the next few months.

nice find! Note the Middle seat frame is Silver beige/ ivory colored, not black. this is discussed in another thread as a weird 64 only thing. cool to see another example. _________________ Fritz Custom Products

Amazing catch Bryce. Crazy that people are still selling buses like that for scrap.
Guess they don't have the internets or watch reality TV. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Really I wish I would've bought it at that price! Yep been on his trailer for 2 weeks and was going to scrap it next day. I couldn't pick up the patina bus because the mouse grey put us behind a few hrs but it finally jumped on the trailer last night.

No complete busses, but found this original swr paint set of ambulance fans. Tested and they work fine. Also a full width salt and pepper middle seat. |
