Nope, not any palm trees in montana. But that is a montana license plate. Mid 70s era. Curious to know where it roamed here. The 38 on the license plate is just out side of glacier nat'l park, cut bank area |

Just pulled this May '56 out of its 55 year hiatus. It was parked in 1960 with 35,169 miles due to a couple warped valves and the owner bought a new ford and never got it back on the road. Lucky for me it was stored inside for most of that time and is insanely dry! Excited to finally be able to contribute to my favourite thread on the samba! Thanks guys _________________ 1974 standard beetle - Africa red

Good eye on the numbers....tucked away in Cut Bank it was...so never was far from the area. Love the art work. Well done to bring that one home....a perfect combination of cash and personality I am sure. Overall a clean, solid bus. Good luck with it. |

Indeed. I am beginning to consider ridding myself of all other VW stuff just to finally own a pressed bumper single cab. _________________ nothing |

This bus has been parked deep in the woods for the last 20 yrs., not too far from where I live. I've looked for a "Shasta snow trip" bus for a long time, I think this is the one for me (and my son I hope). Long term project for SST, but that is my goal. Never really wanted to try the trip and camping in my single cab.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! I came into the SC because I went to highschool with the grand son of the fellow who owned it and the grandson showed me the bus one day and I pursued it for a year and finally got in last week. His father was the original owner and he remembered the day he bought it in 1956 from Claresholm Garage. He gave me old registration and has shared all kinds of stories. Brakes and bearings should be done this week and I've been taking lots of photos to start a nice documentation thread. The deal was I have to bring it to his place when it's running and take him for a drive! Thanks again, guys _________________ 1974 standard beetle - Africa red

That would be Fred Newman, his shop is in Barkhamstead Ct., just outside Winsted, my older Bro has his Vws worked on @ Freds, Fred is a great VW guy. The Trucks/Bus are really East coast rotted. I doubt they are for sale..... _________________ Tom

Looks like a great candidate - please make a build thread + check the VIN - looks a little westyish or something to me? Anything inside?? _________________ I want a real garage.

I just got back from a trip to Glacier National Park. I saw a bus near St Regis, MT that I really wanted to inquire about. However, I was traveling with my family and multiple cars. I didn't want to stop the whole caravan. I will not be going back to check on it. There's so few that are not "known" that it's probably not worth it. If anyone is local and wants the coordinates, let me know. |

Ok, here is another tip for you wanna-B Bus Hunters
Rt. 287 N.Y., heading West towards the Tapanzee Bridge, near Terrytown N.Y., a Green ? lower, Silver ? upper Split Bus, Kombi or 13 window, looked like the glass was all out of it, looked like a Industrial area, on my right, next exit, I THINK, was exit 1 , a bit before the Tapanzee, too much traffic & traveling alone, so no pics....
Good Hunting !!!!!!!! _________________ Tom
