I've seen 3 or 4 at flea markets in the past few years. They are priced between $75 and $125 usually. |

I have one my wife bought for me about 5 years ago out of a antique shop for 50.00. I don't know any more than that.
It is one of the biggest peices in my collection right next to my Barbie bay window bus my Mom bought for me off of Ebay.
Good luck on your quest for info.

These were made in 1973.
They came out in plastic and metal versions in red and gold
The plastic versions had the bumpers reversed and were wound from
the bottom.
The metal ones were wound from the steering wheel.
Both played music when the lid was raised
I have both the plastic ones and soon will have both metal cars.
All bought on e-bay $20 - $120 depending on condition

The plastic ones were made in HongKong; the steel version was made
in Japan. I like the "natural" steel one best. I also have a red one and
a gold one. There also was a black one. |

Cool, thanks folks, I appreciate the info. My dad found it in a friend's "Ford stuff" collection and the friend gave it to dad to give to me for my VW collection. I'd never seen one before.

Here are pictures of my toys. I just got the gold metal one today.
I did not know about the black one. I will keep an eye out for it on e-bay.
Did it come in plastic and metal also ?

I have many odd bugs and bus minitures from years of collecting. kinda new to Samba and ebay. Mostly have collected pez. What "music " does this decanter play? and are the works german? thanks for any input. I see many cheesy plastic, candy holding things that do not have any markings at all but also crude ones in antique shops. Thanks for any input. _________________ '69 westie weekender-1600 sp

Mine plays "raindrops keep falling on my head"...probably not German works since the rest is made in Hong Kong. _________________ Visit our club: www.arcticaircooledvws.com |

That is the jewelry box version. Doesn't have the decanter, but the trunk opens up. |

Hey-- it's good to have an obsession.
There's a guy that hangs around theSamba.com (I won't say who)
that specializes in Buddy 'L' BuddyWagons. He must be up to abot 30 of 'em by now. |

My mom gave me a red one she picked up at a flee market for a dollar because the top was missing years ago. I picked up another now that the wheels were rusted and it is gold. Has anyone tried to remove the pin in the back at the hinge, maybe I can swith the top and have a whole one.
I'd had heard these were given out at dealerships. Any thruth to that? _________________ http://karmannghias.org/

They were made in Japan.... so seriously doubt they were VW affiliated. They came in tin and plastic.
One I "reconditioned" my way...

Very nice. Maybe I should do Herbie for our theater room with about 300 other herbie items. It could match our bump and go Herbie. They seem common enough that it's not like changing something über rare.
I'll have some other nice trim parts if others need any pieces. _________________ http://karmannghias.org/
