I'm about to order from PTT (this is the recommended company here as far as I understand) bumpers for my 73' model.
does someone have any experience with teh 72-74 bumpers from PTT.
will it not be better to try to re chrome them?
what is your suggestion.

Guy, The quotes I got for rechroming were so high that I decided to go with the Vietnamese stainless steel bumpers. I haggled a bit over the price and the shipping, but they were reasonable, I would say, and I'm getting 2 sets of Euro style Ghia bumpers (1 is for a mate doing a 61 Ghia):
Bumpers - $1120 ($560 each) (with all fasteners etc)
Shipping - $160 (They came down from $300)
Bank fee - $25 (I'm not paying by credit card for security reasons)
The lowest quote for rechroming was over $1500 a set.
Your late model style bumpers ought to be a lot cheaper, I should think, but the quality reports from those Samba members who have bought these Vietnamese bumpers have been positive, except for a small fitting issue on the older style bumpers.

For the $200 difference, I would have re-chromed the originals. |

You missed the important bit in the calcs, that's $1300 for 2 sets of stainless bumpers delivered, the $1500 is for one set re-chromed and you have to take them to take them there and pick them up, plus I think Chris's bumpers are towel rails and he wants Euro.
My bumpers have been re-chromed before and are failing again so would need redoing yet again.
So that's $3000 for re-chroming with all the driving backwards and forwards + the risk of failure again vs $1300 for 2 sets of stainless delivered.

I only paid $1600 to get both my American spec bumpers plated and straightening. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

That sounds like the going rate for front and rear bumpers' re-chroming. Dean and I are getting two sets (front and rear) for our cars for less than that.
My original bumpers have so much rust that there would have had to be replacement of the front left and right rear corner pieces too, which would have added another $200-350 to my outlay. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Right, I like the PTT bumpers. They seem well made. Let's hope they last
The rear bumper went on with no hitches. Good fit.
The front bumper on the other hand, there is indeed a problem. The side mounting bolt holes/brackets are significantly offset. You have to fabricate you own brackets. Really silly that you have to do this. PTT really news to fix this.

If you look back through the 22 pages of feedback in this long topic you'll find nearly all the Stainless Steel Bumpers bought originate from 2 manufacturers, both located in Viet Nam.
Group Harrington were first on the scene followed by PTT Bumpers. I would be very surprised if "Garage Warriors" weren't stockist for one or the other manufacturers from Viet Nam. The only way to tell who the manufacturers are is to ask "Garage Warriors".
Then you can judge the quality offered by going back through the feedback offered in this thread. _________________ John.

I ordered these from PTT for my '64 last year. With overriders, without towel bars. They're great.
And Ms. Helen just emailed me this morning to see how I was. Maybe you'll get the same attention from your Ms. Honey. |
Rob, thank you very much for your order. I am Helen from PTT whose you bought bumper |

Has anyone seen or used the PTT Type 3 bumpers? I'm looking at a set for my fastback. |
Hi my friend
The bumper Type 3 from PTT company is the best quality. Cause it is made from stainless steel grade 304. I sold for customer on over the world. And i do not have complaint from them. So please do not worry about it.
You can get 1 set for your car and tell with your friend about those quality. |

Not the fronts. The fact they don't fit is a huge issue in my opinion

Send her a PM with the pictures...it's the only thing that is stopping the PTT Bumpers from being the top choice. |
No offence intended but the pictures are on this thread several times but have just been largely ignored so far, not wonderful in my opinion. |

Granted, there is a little bit of a language barrier, I still expect a manufacturer to investigate criticism and feedback when it's presented. And as mentioned, the pics are here. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org
