the 80s was good time for vws, I was in orange county from 1980-1994 I went to vw classic, vw jamboree, type 3 day, vintage vw club meets, soto bus meets, local part store car shows, bug in 30 & 31, Bakersfield, there was a lot going on then. I'm in nor-cal now and have a 1967 cal look bug. there is still a good vw scene here.

Old quote from Carlos! Dam you nailed it!

Creativity was the name of the game! The louder in color and paint design, the more chrome the better, who had the coolest louver design, the who was the first to put cool crap like tube tv's and home grown wood speaker boxes were the SHIT! And to top it off you would post up next to your ride with parachute pants on! Get creative guys! Be your own signature! And screw all these stock nazi's
Sorry guys! Now back to your regularly scheduled program ! Wink

Hey everyone, I just recently purchased a 1959 Bug out of Lawton , OK and was curious if anyone has ever seen it before? It looks like it was taken care of very well at one point in time in its life, possible ever shown at car shows. Just curious about its history is all.

Thanks

I remember that car. I think Matt Howard owned and built it.

Correct

Matt just got this car back after selling back in the 90's. It looks almost EXACTLY the same. Like it was in a time capsule. It was awesome to see again after all these years.

I remember seeing that car at the Phoenix Bug-o-Rama in the late 90's, if I remember right it had primered rear fenders and decklid, and a Deano sticker on the windshield. At the time I was more interested in checking out the lowered Chevy dually that tow bar'd it into the show.

Here's one that has been running around Escondido for as long as I can remember. It was built by and still belongs to Tim Kotter of Kotter's VW Service.
I always was a big fan of the paint stripes that started at the door and wrapped around the back window.

That style graphic was very popular back in the day. My 56 had a similar graphic and the motor was built by Tim when he was in Orange County.
