The THING shop sells a "Bikini" top, someone may correct me if I'am wrong but I believe the Surrey top is a Acapulco type top, a little different than the Bikini. Never heard of the other one mentioned.

As far as I know Bimini is the correct term, but I just am not 100% on that.

I looked at a VW accessory ad for an Acapulco and it's called a Surrey Top. I'll keep looking through other accessory ad's and if I find anything, I'll post the information

In terms of common usage that I have come across, a Surrey top generally covers front and rear seats and the cargo space if there is one. It can come with or without its own frame. A bikini top usually refers to a much simpler setup consisting of a piece of material stretched from the windshield over a roll bar member, and then tensioned with straps or whatever. It can cover all the seats, or just the front.

I went back and checked all of the accessory ad's published by VW for the "regular" Thing and the Acapulco Thing and each refers to the top as a Surrey top.

Maybe over the years, it became known as a bikini or bimini but the ad's called it a Surrey top

What he said.... Very Happy

Bikini & Bimini are interchangeable terms for the same style top.

Surrey is what the Acapulco came with.

I guess it all depends on whether you're driving your Thing in the Bahamas, the Marshall Islands, or the UK.

Yeah, and if you're driving anywhere in the southern states it might be called a "Tube Top"! Just be sure to sure to take the cigarette out of your mouth before you tell off the highway patrolman...
