my square keeps getting further from the light:
I just picked up my square from my mechanic. Darryl performed a laundry list of things on my car, including:
replaced headlights with Sport kit from MAM
replaced broken accelerator cable
full tuneup/oil change (might as well, with the rest of this)
but mostly:
swapped the FI for a set of Weber 34 ICT's... which also entailed a new fuel pump and distributor....
I will post pics in a couple of days, but the square runs better than it ever did on the FI system...
don't worry, Tram & Russ -- I have the FI system boxed up for a rainy day.... I just got tired of diagnosing/fixing/replacing components for the last 14 months and simply want to drive my car...
let the rant begin.... _________________ póg mo thóin

the darkside is awesome.. lol
what's this headlight mod you speak of?
you can't carry enough extra accelerator cables by the way. lol. i remember one time i fixed my busted cable with speaker wire so i could get home.
i am still on the fence about the FI stuff. i dont care really. when my FI starts crapping out, then i'll start worrying. but until then, i like it even though i am pretty uneducated on the topic. i'm pretty decent with carb work so i think thats ONE upside to it at least.
you have pics of those headlights? _________________ 1973 VW bus |

I'm betting you miss your FI in a matter of weeks. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

those look pretty legit. i'd get some, but our cars already look too alike.
btw - off topic, did your bumpers bolt on pretty easily with the stock brackets? _________________ 1973 VW bus |

I think carbs are gonna go on my square, I already have a questionable motor, I don't need anymore guess work so I'm switching. |

my bumpers are fiberglass and didn't have any holes in them until I drilled them... so I fit them...
the OG chrome bumpers, however, are different - the rears bolt up nicely, but the fronts will take a little work on the brackets -- plus you have to have early brackets, as late ones are too wide for the bumpers...
Tram - I hear you talking and this was a decision I dragged my feet on for quite a while... I got sick of looking at my car in the garage and just want to drive it.... some day, maybe, the FI will go back on it, but until then.... _________________ póg mo thóin

Darkside? Ahhh... I thought you were buying a bay bus
You keep running that thing with the controlled fuel leak, I'll stick to the FI myself
Actually, the darkside to a type 3 would be a 411/412, wouldn't it? _________________ -=Rob

I've had a couple of accelerator cables break, and inevitably you don't have one with you. So now I always have some 3/8" rope in the car. I've had to drive home before pulling on the rope to get the engine going..... _________________ 72 181 Radio Car - Weekend Driver

Actually, "Darkside" means non-stock whereas "Lightside" means stock, it has nothing to do with type/model. _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

Rise Lord Blankmange, and feel the power of the Dark side. . . .
Carbs leads to Mag wheels, Mag wheels leads to Lowered suspension, . . . Dual Dells going on my motor as sonn as it quits and I get a rebuild. PO converted it to Carbs before I bought it. I like being able to tune, rejet and work on my cars and most importantly DRIVE THEM. In all honesty and respect to the more FI inclined, if I had the tools, time and patience I would probably use FI but, I have non of the above so I'll go the carburetted way. Drive on everybody its all about everybody doing their own thing. Long live Aircooled VWs _________________ Different Strokes for Different Volks

Those headlights should fit a 69 square and any late bug. Those lights used to be offered in the old Rocky mountain Motorwerks catalogue. _________________ Different Strokes for Different Volks

those look like the same lights -- did they come with an install kit, i.e. all the wiring and relays, etc? _________________ póg mo thóin
