|
|
So I searched a bit and did not see what I was looking for. I am planning the tire purchase for my '65 resto and I'd like white walls, but I'd like to make sure I get the type that were original to the car. I mean, from a 'size of the white wall' itself perspective. I am not a fan of really WIDE white walls, but what size was correct? Or were they not really used but maybe put on by dealers as an option? _________________ Gerg

as far as I know they were available from the factory... Coker tires makes two different size whitewall patterns and has the most abundant selection to choose from. You would want thier 165 with the 3 inch whitewall, not the 4 inch. They aren't too cheap but they are also available in bias ply as well as radial. hope this helps

You can see an original Dunlop 560-15 on my Bahama Blue '65. The whitewall measures 1 7/8" from the rim. Coker offers either a thinner whitewall or 2 1/4", like I have on my '56. Personally, I like the 1 7/8". It looks really good w/out being too fat. However, I dont know of any manufacturer that makes this size whitewall. Coker seems to be the "next best thing".

Thanks Fonzy!
I have seen Coker's selection - just did not know how wide the white should be. I'd hoped for 2" or less. _________________ Gerg

Thanks for the pics 67 FD! I like the narrower white wall for sure. I suppose all white walls at that time started at the rim, not like the newer ones you see with some black rubber between the rim and the inner edge of the white wall?
Thanks again! _________________ Gerg

True. Whitewalls were a factory installed accessory, usually Continental brand. M-code 128. |

I would pick the 1" myself, I think they look better on a "newer" car.
They are only a little smaller than the original ones.
Here is a factory press photo from 66, showing the smaller version:

House - that is the size I'd like to run. I suppose they would have been '65 too. _________________ Gerg

Yes, I believe so.
Here is a pic of the 3/4" WW 165R15 BF Goodrich Radials from Coker.
Here is a pic of the 1" WW 560-15 Firestone Bias Plys from Coker. (More correct)

I'm curious as to what puts the identical dents in the same spot on two different cars (???) |
Good question. Years of abuse I guess! lol
Both are original paint cars, and a little round around the edges,
but I myself would rather not put new paint on them.
I may be putting those radials on the '67 (better driver) and putting
some bias plys on the '64 like on the '66, as they look better IMHO. |

My '64 has the original Continental spare in the trunk and it has the 1" whitewall. I'm saving my pennies for 4 more like it came from the dealer. _________________ MDWMAN |

Rats, I always have a hard time getting pics in here. It is a continental tire and the size is 5.60-15. The tire model name must be Schlauchlos. Hope this helps. Other pics in the gallery. _________________ MDWMAN |

Here's my '79 wit the Coker 3/4" Goodrich Radials
I really like the tires. I've got no comlaints and would buy another set in a heartbeat. Actually I wouldn't have anything else on my car unless someone starts making repro Michelins with the 1/2" WW [original to my car].
