Yes those wheels are somewhat popular here but not that popular, the price seems a bit too expensive for me, fiberglass work here it's very cheap as hand labor it's really cheap for example I'm looking into building my own and the complete fiberglass kit of a Meyers clone is arround 600-900 dlls I suggest to you to shoot that price off and if shipping is thaaat expensive you can pay for my diesel and I can put it on the border or you can come to my house and have it shipped here so you can pick it up, as I said my house is 2-3 hours from the Texas border

Here's a link to mercadolibre which is just like eBay so you can get an idea of how expensive that thing is, keep looking in tha web page you never know when one of those babys will be up for sale

They are in each of the places you mentioned. I have driven the blue one and also sat in a red one in Cancun. I have seen three different ones in Playa Del Carmen, and I know that my father saw the same buggy on Cozumel. The guy that owned the blue one I drove told me he took it to Cozumel on the Ferry frequently. He also brought home pictures of the exact same green one with the doors and the dollar Rent a car logos in Puerto Vallarta about 5 years ago now. They were not made by VW and I've read and been told by another guy in Vallarta that VW went after the original designers pretty heavily, so that may account for why they were so hard t otrack down for years. The first one I saw clearly had stock VW badges on the hood and engine lid. VW doesn't play around with unauthorized use of their logos etc..

I'd still love to have one of those buggies.!! I'll sell my LWB manx style body in a heartbeat for one of them. They could definitely be an all weather buggy.

If those prices listed are Peso's that is an amazing deal! If they are dollars they seem pretty damned high.
I just LOVE this design! I can just imagine this thing with some lift and beefy tires.

Is the currency USD? If so, they are very proud of their work.

I think that is pesos. I will ask him and clarify. These were the best pictures and the most credible source that I have seen so far.

It would be safe to assume pesos for the
price, the shipping fee will probably be the deal breaker - unfortunately.

Update*
SHIPPING TO NEW LAREDO $ 15,000. Oo $ 35.000 plus the kit.
I just got word about the kit plus delivery fee.

The price is pesos. So 3400ish us dollars.

These fascinate me as a blend of old and new beetle and extremely well thought out as far as fitment of hardware and latches, I like just looking at the details, look at that engine seal, and a spare tire bay. Really neat

There is a new version of these buggies that has a roll back roof instead of t-tops taht I really like. I have pictures but the samba doesn't like the file format and I can't get them saved as jpg files.

I have found some more information. In addition to the information previously posted about the company in Jalisco, there is another company really close to Mexico City that is building these bodies. Here is the link to their website:

http://www.fibrasdevidrio.com.mx/videos.html

They also have a Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/fibrasdevidrioyautos

I will post some photos as soon as I have the time but right now, I need to run out.
