Excessive crankshaft endplay has destroyed my case. Any recommandations where I should Buy a new Magnesium case? |

There are so many to chose from. Does everboby sell the same case or are there a couple of different manufacturers? |

There are new cases and good used cases. Your choice.
You have so many decisions to make right now. You can go 181, type 1, 2, 4.
You only need to think about:
how original?
How big?
How much money will she let me spend? |

When I have no case, my favorite is a new AS-41
The down side of this case is that it is not tapped for the Thing engine grates... To have that you will want to go with the Universal case. If you want a 1776 ( which is a good choice for a peppy motor that can last a long time) you should add up the cost of all the parts you intend to buy to build this engine. Then look around and see if you can find a 1776 that is built ot the specs you want. On STF there is a group that discusses engines. I have designed a few engines just by posting there. It is filled wiht very knowledgeable folks. I even met an engine builder on that forum ( who is now a good friend) that built me a killer motor for a massive bargain price. I like ot take my time when deciding "What motor?" I am planning motors for two VWs right now. One is a T-4 2.0 liter and the other is for a Thing. I have a running AM case Thing motor in California ( at my friend who built the killer motor for me) and we are discussing how the engine will be. I am leaning toward a 1776 but he wants to build me a 2110 stroker using forged stroked counter balanced Porsche Crank and all the other cool stuff... I recently considered putting the T-4 2.0 and bus box in my Thing. I have also thought about bringing the motor back to Colorado and just building a 1776 myself...
I would start to make the decision on the list below..
T-1, T-4,
Buy case or get a donor motor..
Displacement- Bore and Stroke
BUDGET
The continued way the engine is to be used.
Do you want low end torque (dished pistons) or top end (domed pistons) |

K-mann, is that T-4 2.0 a stock engine or are you do anything special to it, and what up-right conversion are you thinking about? _________________ Order of the Voodoo Spoon |
