Has anyone purchased or seen these stainless steel bumper assemblies on any type 1's? They are sold by the Harrington Group in Great Britain, but manufactured in Vietnam. They look okay in the pictures, but that means nothing to me. I like the idea of stainless and no need to ever chrome, and polishing them every now and then is no big deal, nor is the weight. If anyone has any idea of these bumpers, please let me know. The do have an ad on Ebay, but I'll not post the link as the forum requests that we not do that. The link to the website is Harringtongroup.biz
If anyone out there knows about these, or has any idea of their fit on the car, please let me know.
Thanks,
John |

Yeah, I understand that BB-T sells those stainless steel blades, but the ones I was referring to in the initial post are fully stainless American Style bumpers. They have the overriders and everything... If you get a chance to, check that website out.. |

I am pretty damn sure that the BB-t ones are only the Euro-spec bumper blades, and are not fully stainless as the ones I'm referring to. If you check the website, or search Ebay for "Stainlees Steel Bug Bumpers" you will find the ones I'm talking about.
I am really just interested in finding anyone in the VW community who may have purchased these, and knowing if this company is a reputable source to send my money to for some nice bumpers!
thanks. |

I asked the same question over a year ago and there were no replies from anyone who actually bought the bumpers. I'm curious to see how they hold up over time.
$445 for the pair with no grommets. Here's a pic:

Yes, someone must have bought them. I'd be interested if they are as good as OG. |

I don't like the black backing...I suppose I could paint the backs..
I may just buy a set! I would rather hear from someone though.

Well I just broke down and bought a set of the Harrington Bumpers. Actually came out to be $487.00 with the current conversion rate so as soon as I get them in I'll let everyone know what I think. The website says there is a one week delivery time but I find that hard to believe. Cip1 can't get parts to me from the West Coast in one week how will Harrington do it from England in one week ??? |

Maybe this will seem stupid, but at a cost of almost $500 (does that include shipping from England?) for very high quality repro-bumpers, why wouldn't you just get some original ones and have them straightened and re-chromed?
The reason I ask is because I just got my rear bumper straightened and re-chromed, ran me about $300 including the bumper guards, but this is in California (high waste fees for chrome shops) and I have fatchick bumpers. Are the earlier model bumpers that much more to repair? Because I see lots more original early bumpers up for sale here than I see the late ones.

Hi.
I think I can help here.
One of our guys bought the stainless bumpers a year or so ago. The car is driven regularly in damp England and the bumpers still look fine. Not a spot on them, as you would expect from stainless. Worth the money.
NEVER have a set of decent originals rechromed. The process is not the same these days and you'll end up with rust. Clearcoat front and back if you do go with rechroming.
Even the so called triple chromed ones are suspect as the chrome is actually porus. They look great when new, but will soon rust just like all the repro bumpers do. Even the expensive W'burg West bumpers can rust prematurely compared to the 40+ year old originals that are still out there. I had one on a car that sits outside in heavy fog, but still, the original bumper never rusted like the W'Burg West one eventually did after a year. I do know people who have them on garage kept cars and had much better luck.
I think that's why you don't see too many used repro bumpers on The samba. They don't hold up well and aren't worth trying to sell. _________________ Kyle, Buddy, and Herbie the Love Bug ll53

Please someone let me know immediately, as I asked this question about the bumpers, and now I want one of you guys who had the money and trust built into buying these that you bit the bullet. Please show your bumpers installed, and fitted on your ride to display the fit, and curvature of these bumpers.. I believe Harrington , and the VW luvers will appreciate your time in pictures, and the chance you took buying sight unseen!
thanks guys! |

Will these bumpers be correct for a '67? In other words, since the '67 bumpers "lean out," will these work?
