Germans have problems with the "Th" sound when speaking English, so perhap they would call a US 181 a "Ting" "Das ist ein Ting"

My kids like "amabob" (thanks VWBoop) and since they will be doing some of the driving that's probably what we're going to go with. Although kudos to johnathing for coming up with "Ting" (my favorite).

However if I put DASTING (The Thing) on the plate people might confuse it with a hip-hop song title - "Da Sting" and think that I'm a famous rapper. Then they'd see a middle aged guy with gray hair and not an ounce of bling and wonder what I was trying to prove. They would think I'm a wanna be going through a midlife crisis.

Although guys going through a midlife crisis usually don't drive Things they drive Porches. So, following the same midlife logic, I should be trading in my attractive wife for a dumpy German woman with bad skin

I'll send pictures (of the Thing not the German woman).

Virginia Owners! No personalized on antique tags. FYI, Virginia Antique Tags limit you to 250 miles for a show or road testing, not for every day use. Plus side is no County sticker. If pulled by State Police, vehicle must be capable of passing state inspection. This is a gray area, if a trooper see's you to many times, lots of luck.

I know you've already made up your mind as to what you want on your plate, but I'm just throwing this one out here: Dinge ("Thing" auf Deutsch).

Not bad. I'll run it by the kids - they have the majority voting block.

I like to think of myself as a benevolent monarch but I'm really a lot like prince charles - but with better teeth - a monarch in name only. Translated - someone else wears the pants in my family.

Mine just say 73 VW. We only get six letter/number combinations in Kentucky. Not much to choose from. It does answer the most obvious questions right up front. Then I get to talk about VWs for an hour. Very Happy
