Hello,
Finally after 10 years cut the knot and started on the bodywork.
It will be a 100% better than from the factory restauration done by my bodyworker who is about my age and an an oldschool bodyworker.
He used to restore MG's for several years and is able to create panels from plain sheetmetal.
This thread will not be a show-off of how money I have or whatever but a more of a guide of how to do things right + materials to use and the time spending on recreating - removing - replacing panels + paint preparing till the paint booth.
Already cut out some rot altough it was a low mileage first owner car.
Bodywork + painting + welding is quoted for approximatly $ 6500.
I know, a lot but will be worth it ! Never been keen on early early notches or squares.
Most of my NOS private collection will find it's place on the car during the build up.
Currently is stripped and has it's entire front removed + one rear airbox drilled out.
List of the NOS panels I already collected:
NOS front nose panel
NOS front inner nose panel
NOS L + R front inner wings
NOS fuel tank carriers
NOS front bonnet
NOS L front + L rear fender
NOS R front + R rear fender
NOS L + R entire length outer sills
NOS L + R entire length inner sills
NOS rear apron
NOS L + R rear air box bottom repair section
NOS rear decklid
I need some help regarding one of the NOS inner rockers.
I found a late LS (with the slots) and an early RS (with the louvres)
I prefer the early type with the slider more.
ANY chance someone has a LS NOS inner rocker to swap ?
OR the the piece with the slider from a wrecked pré '67 TIII itself.
A NOS RS late inner rocker would be OK to as I found those flaps + plastics and controls in NOS packaging.
Help out a brother in need please
I know I will never become a 1500 club member but I can assure when the car will be finished it will be a showcase of how a TIII has to be restored / preserved !
Foto's tomorrow !

Mad man

EVERYTHING NOS !
For the front alone I collected:
NOS fuel tank carriers

NOS bonnet
NOS fenders
NOS side markers - NOS bases - NOS seals - NOS lenses
NOS indicators - NOS bases - NOS seals - NOS lenses
NOS bonnet trim
NOS bonnet trim seal
NOS bumper
powdercoated bumper brackets
NOS bumper bolts
NOS fender beading - all matchingcolours of course !
NOS cardboard front trunk liner
NOS sides liners
zinc coated lock
zinc coated catch
powdercoated fuel tank
zinc coated nuts + bolts troughout
NOS fender fitting sets - NOS bolts + NOS grommets
NOS front wiring loom
NOS single screw headlight rims
NOS headlight rim screws
new H4 sealed beam conversion lights
NOS VW bonnet logo
new washer
NOS wipers + wiper arms
NOS chrome trim
NOS Aussi "Type3" badges
zinc coated numper plate bracket
NOS bonnet seals
mint brake fluid reservoir
new brake fluid blue hoses
zinccoated brake fluid hard lines
NOS KPZ rims with new tires
chrome rim bolts
new (own) KPZ centercap stickers
new (own repro) paint code sticker
And these are only the things you can see on the front alone !
The chassis is even more insane. It has at least 100 hours in it alone !
BTW I am writing down the hours that will go into the body in it's own.
And you don't want to know what it's gonna cost - or will have cost in the end.
Collecting stuff for over 10 years now - no way turning back

Why didn't you just start with a better car? _________________

That's a Euro low mileage car to you US folks !
I am just a freak - had a tiny hole in the inner wing and decided to remove the entire wing
Do it once - do it good - and sleep tight
Psychological disorder thingy I guess

Thread Hijack Warning!
Can somebody tell me the purpose of that rod that's welded to the left side of fasty bodies? The one above the wheel well in this pic:

OH, duh!
That makes sense. I kept thinking it must be some strange stiffener that they only needed on the left side. What a doofus. _________________ Tony
