Seems like a good deal for a Syncro that has a lot of stuff added to it. I do like the bull bars up front.

I have an 87' syncro transporter w/locker project I'm thinking of getting out of. It's getting a Subaru 2.2 put in right now, by a professional shop using the small car kit. Besides that, its mostly stock. Its pretty solid for the body except for a few dents and some minor rust. The tub is perfect inside and has some kind of z-bart type coat to the chassis. The glass is good all around, nothing leaking. 4wd is good, electronics are all solid for being 27 years old. Interior is pretty clean. 6/10 IMOP. Ive got about$12k into it so far; can I get that out of it?
Any opinions out there? |

I'm currently in Shreveport, Louisiana and took my dad's car to his favorite car wash today. I'm standing outside waiting for the guys to finish wiping down his Escape, and I see something that few, if any, in Shreveport have ever witnessed before: two tintop Vanagons ('85 and '87,) a '78 Westy, and a '73 Thing for sale in the lot next door.
I went over and talked to the guy at the shop for a good while; he's a hot rod mechanic selling the vehicles for his brother-in-law. I think he's overpriced good bit on the Vanagons, but a bird in the hand...
I mean, they're in SHREVEPORT. If you're in that part of the world and looking for a hardtop Vanagon, they're certainly worth a look. He has them posted in Craigslist:

Not mine, just thought it was interesting and a possible project for somebody in the Ark-La-Tex. _________________ Joe T.

A working syncro with locker and a Subaru 2.2 should easily fetch $12K, even a tin-top, unless the rust is bad. Stock engined tintop syncros seem to go for $10K and up. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

It's in good working order all around and the rust is minimal- like I said tho: it's still a project so it's basically a clean canvas to work on with a new heart. Actual mileage on the old motor was 117k. The motor ran well before I swapped it out. The starter strap shorted out and rather than put $1 into te old engine, I just opted to have the 2.2 put in. Thanks for the input. I'll probably list it in the next month or so. |

I'm curious what anyone else's sense of the "winter market" for Westys is. I've posted my immaculate 88 for 10,900 [fair price?] and received only one inquiry. It will stay in the garage until spring and it will be interesting to see if demand increases then.
So many posting are for much more $$, I wonder if they see any action? |

You don't say where you are but location probably plays a big part in this. Here in central VA on CL there are three Westies that have stuck around for weeks, if not months. One is a late model with very low miles and a GoWesty type price, so no surprise there, but the others appear to be affordable and reasonable for age/miles and still have not sold. Good luck! _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

He's in Salt Lake.
If it has zero rust I don't know why you wouldn't want to show that in your ad's pics though?
Zero rust is a very high selling mark, and yet you show NO pics of the left side of the van at all, I don't get that, and no close-ups of any of the seams. Well.... it's none of my business anyways... _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Who's saying it is?
I see someone asking for opinions about spring and winter price differentials concerning their own van, nothing wrong with that. They even stated they were taking it off the market (which it now is), so let the bee out of your shorts.
They probably would have received more feedback if it was posted in the main forum section, but they only have a few posts experience on this site. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Had a sunroof van, loved it.
Yes, good deal.
If it was here, I'd buy it today. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,
