Looks like a paint-match bedliner job along the bottom. Could be hiding more rust...

Yeah, the rust would be my biggest concern. Love that striped interior though.

Don't know how long this one will last.

$7000 CDN for a tintop Syncro. that's like $5000 USD.

Lots of kms though.

That's a rare bus for sure. Looking through the windshield, it has no rear interior thus making it a Kombi. It's basically a panel van with rear windows. I've only seen a handful of those and ironically each that I've seen are '88s. Available only in Canada along with our crewcabs, single cabs, panels, Tristars.... hehe, only teasing our southern neighbors.

Wonder where the high water mark got up to. From the front it looks like it was over the grill but that could be dust from sitting a while near a dirt road area in the lot.

It would be cool to get the scoop on the van. Not all vans radiate soul. That one does and is cool. Who know the owner? I love that van. I would be bidding and not posting it here if it were local to me. I hope it doesn't get parted.
somebody save this van.

Flood victim cars have electrical problems as water wicks deep into the wire sheathing. I would expect to have to replace the wiring harnesses and probably the engine and tranny depending on how deep the water got and duration. I would expect there to be wierd rust issues in the frame channels in the future.
I like it for some reason but skipped on bidding knowing it will probably be more effort than it is worth to get it squared away.
The PZWO fog lights are the only thing that really pops out, they do show 2 images of the grill and one shows parts missing from the other.

I don't think a freshwater flood will cause so much damage in an older car. This car has near ZERO digital electronics, but rather old school wiring.
Of course, every situation is different, but I have friends that have fixed up flood cars.
I did some wiring repair on a flooded Chrysler sebring convertible recently.
Power seat switch was the only failure and that because it had a lot of metal swarf in it from wear before it was flooded. NOT quite over the engine, maybe 24 inches. of water.
In fact some years ago, I got an 80 Vanagon that was flooded. I did some basic stuff, pulled the ecu apart and washed it and dried. Changed the oil. I had it cranking but never got the FI working and the owner of the yard accidentally junked it. (Too bad, it was a near perfect rust free example).
It would have returned to service quite easily. Sure, it's possible there might be remaining water in a few pockets, but will dry out. The carpet and soft trim is the most imperiled part after electronics.

I was talking about water getting into the wiring not the electronics. If the water was brackish or saltwater it would be especially bad. The damage in the listing just says water/flood so it could be anything. I just assumed salt water of some kind but maybe they drove it into a lake.
Those vanagon floor mats are supposed to be black and the seat piping looks to be a weird color so I assume the water got at least to the pedestal level.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Copart cars can be previewed so a local guy could confirm if it is worth the salvage effort or not.
BTW the listing says that it is a enhanced vehicle meaning they washed it and cleaned up a little so getting eyes on it firsthand would be a good idea.
Good luck bidders

It's a sports van. Very Happy

Title says SC non-rebuildable = wrecker license only. Scrap or parts, can not be driven on the public road again. Sad

I really need a wrecker license.

Co part wil not let all buyer bid and buy all cars. I'd say your own state might have the final say if it would be able to be titled in your state. SC doesn't even use titles on old cars.
Pics are a bit funny. Some pics show HEADLIGHT WASHERS. Some do not. It looks like they previously removed all the interior panels. either to dry out thin nside or possibly the seller kept them.
WRT salt water. I do not think we have had any hurricanes recently. so I'd guess flash flood/ fresh water/ mud.

You could guess just as easily that the van was stuck in the sand with the tide coming in. Very Happy Shocked

IIRC (secondhand info) brokers fees+copart fees usually add >$600.

Broker fees are ~$200 and the copart fees vary depending on the purchase price.

Yes, that might be a good guess, considering it is a coastal state.
If that was the case, I would definitely buy a pressure washer.
Would that be worse than 25 winters in the snow/ salt belt?

This seems like a great deal to me. Especially with the current exchange rate!
I think it was pending within 24 hrs of posting.

The headlight washer grille is missing in the last pic. Most likely the PZ fogs are gone already.
