Has potential to be a good deal? $13500.00 1989 Wolfram Grey Westy
http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/5811835577.html
Maybe the price can be negotiated down? Looks decent from the few pictures.
PS - is there a rubric for "good deal"? There are several tin tops listed in seattle for $1800 and $1500 with very little info....that could be a good deal...or garbage. _________________ '89 2WD Westy "Grey Goose" - Manual 4spd

I am conflicted about this one ... On one hand, it's a $27K 2WD Vanagon. On another hand, the numbers are all there - I am sure some of you here have more than that into their build (shoot, I am at $15K, and I have the 1.9L and original tranny) - and here you get a BUILT van ready for adventures.
Would love to hear your thoughts?

For 27 K, in my opinion, it would have to be a later model with a perfect body for starters, I see at least 4 areas that need repair just on the passenger side, plus unattended rust spots and uncomfortable front seats.
But.... I'm a curmudgeon. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

I thought the same as Levi. Not as creme puff as I would want to see with an early 84 for that kind of money. $18k and I might go look at it. Doesn't get me excited at all for 27k.
[edit:] As an example here is a subie converted 84 Westy (and it is a later model 84 with the nicer interior) for $20K.

Tintop Syncro for sale in New Orleans. Seller claims a rebuilt 2.0L, so not sure what's up with that. http://neworleans.craigslist.org/cto/5816626138.html _________________ 1985 Westy, 1.9L

He supposedly already has an offer of $10K, so you'd have to beat that. |

When the add was originally listed it for sale, it was listed for $20,000 CDN. So that should give you an idea of what he is looking for. _________________ 1987 Westfalia, Slate Blue

That makes sense ...
The seller readily admits that they are flipping the van (they just bought it in the US) - not that there is anything wrong with that, but you are definitely dealing with someone who knows what they got. So not a "steal". |

Non-runner with some not-too-bad body damage in New Orleans. I traded emails with the seller, and he says the motor "lost pressure" and developed a knock. I wonder if the valve lifters just didn't pump up right away after it sat for awhile. But I don't have the gumption to take on a project at this point.
Seller told me he's hoping to get more than he'd get from the scrapyard.
