These are the supposed RDW 'real deal'...no comparison to the nicer quality and look of the unauthorised DSR's in my 'personal' opinion.

You mean the ones that were manufactured, after the design was RIPPED OFF from reknowned artist, VW cartoonist, and all-around good guy Dave Deal?
If you saw Randee's @ the Classic, were you aware that it was basically a rough casting, and hadn't had a final machine and polish yet, that the damn thing was probably still warm from the mold?
At least Randee did it the right way, by getting permission from the original designer, instead of stealing the idea and running with it...
Are the Der Steiner Rads DOT approved?
Randee's are, or will be, if they aren't already.
"Unauthorised", huh... heyal9, lemme steal something from YOU, and make a profit on it, okay? I'm sure you wouldn't mind... _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

With all due respect Dave, I have never felt indifferent about what you wrote in regard to the infringement issues..but honestly, my post was simply about making a 'personal' opinion about the quality of the wheels. I even clearly stated they were 'unauthorised'. What more can I say? I'm sure Dave Deal was a nice guy but quite frankly, please don't massacre me for expressing my opinion in this 'forum'. |

With all due respect, al9, if I wanted to massacre you, believe me, you would know. Actually, I think I showed pretty remarkable restraint.
Yes, you did call them "unauthorised" but I choose a different wording for them.
Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I don't have a problem with that whatsoever, or that Restojohnny has a set...I agree, I saw them in Bad Camberg, and they are, in fact, a well-made, nicely-finished wheel. I still would like you to answer my question, though... can I steal something from you, clone it, sell it for a profit, and when you take me to task for it, can I just simply say "F**k You"?
No, I didn't think so. And any time I see mention of those wheels, as long as I am in this hobby, I will post MY opinion, as well. My good friend Dave Deal got ripped off. Period. No if's, and's, or but's.
And I'd do the same for any other friend. (yeah, both of them). _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

Wrong Dave, al9. I believe you want Daid Mayes, who is DaveM on the Samba, and has posted on this very thread. _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

Chill Dave. I think you should be directing your feelings towards DSR not Al9.
But that being said, the DSR's definitely look a hell of a lot better than the RD's.
Can't wait to see your lowlight progress shots, Al9! _________________ 1961 Double Cab (Sealing Wax Red) |

I dunno. Looks like Randee's come up with the goods. They've got that vintage look whereas the DSR's look a bit Euro slick...a bit modern perhaps. |

The DSR's beautiful quality is what makes it look slick How are the RDW's balanced once the tyres are mounted? There's not many places in Melbourne/Australia that can balance those with its non-removable centrecap... |
