I intend to install an Albert clip mirror in my 59 bug. So, I bought in ebay a mirror and a "F" Albert clip (witch is designated for the Volkswagen limousine) from two different sellers.

When I received the two itens, I had some research on Samba foruns and I found some usefull information, in order to attach the clip to the mirror.

However, I still have need of information about:

1- Where/how should I exactly fix the mirror on the door?

2- The clip and the mirror did not possess any gaskets, so there is any possibility of the installation of the mirror cause damage to the door painting?

3- How should I work with those two little internal bolts? There is any necessity of drilling on the door frame?

Can someone give me some help in order to install this mirror?
Kindest regards from Portugal to all Samba community, Paulo.

Place a piece of plastic between the drip rail and the pointed set screws. Tighten the set screws against the plastic & it will hold the F-clip into place. Place the mirror unto the F-clip. Screw the the two Chrome screws through the mirror bracket and into the threaded portion of the F-clip. Done.

RareAir, thank you very for the information. Where exactly is located the drip rail? I can`t find a photo to have an idea of the place where the mirror is mounted on the door! Confused Best regards, Paulo.

The "drip rail" is the area found on the roof edge. Where the roof skin & body are seamed together forms the drip rail.

Its mounted to the drip rail on the edge of the windshield post, not the door itself. Wink

With the information provided by Rareair and Kantdrivefast I made an attempt to install the mirror on the drip rail near the windscreen post.

However, it became evident that there is no fitting of clip to the drip rail. On the other hand, I took the perception that clip has a shape that permits the fixing to the door frame, where it is mounted the rubber. I had not understood how the fixing of the clip is compatible with the presence of the rubber. Is it possible to obtain some help about this?

The F-clip you purchased may be may be for a convertible Beetle. That style was designed to be mounted on the front qtr glass frame like the car shown below.

The Albert F-clip took its place at last (I hope) in the door frame.

Hello Andreou

In my opinion, the Albert "C" clip is to be used on VW cabriolets, as indicated on the respective box. Dont forget that in the cabrio the mirror is mounted on the front quarter glass frame, not on the door frame.

Kindest regards, Paulo

What years were this style of Albert Mirror typically installed on? Splits? Ovals? Later?

I have a pair I am contemplating installing on a split, just to have a bit more safety.

Thoughts?

I'm trying to decide what to do about outside mirrors on Ingrid, also.... A previous owner, probably when the car was still in Germany, added door mirrors but cut these ragged slots in the door lip on both doors. The slots are approximately two inches in length.

My question is: What kind of clip (or brand of mirror) would have been used that the slots would have been needed, and has anyone else ever run into this kind of hackery on their sedans?

My instinct is to repair and fill the slots and then get Albert "F" clips and mirrors to do it right, but if there is a mirror out there that used the slots in the door I may correct the holes and use them.
