ok, so me and my dad were taking my thing back home from buying it up in wisconsin(2 hours from me). and about half an hour into the trip it started to smoke alot out of the tail pipes, but we didnt think much of it. and then after about 15 minutes we noticed it had no oil pressure at idle speed. so we pulled over and checked the oil and it was almost gone. so we put a quart in. (good thing we just bought 4 quarts.) well anyways, this continued to happen, and we figured about 15 miles a quart. but we finally got home, and now i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what this could be? _________________ Did you know cigarette lighters were invented before matches? |

start with the basics- do a compression test, check the endplay, do a visual inspection to look for oil leaks. The smoke from the exhaust could be an indicator of worn rings, but if you are losing that much oil that quickly, i would be looking for other culprits as well, like the oil cooler seals. did you notice any oil sprayed around the engine compartment? _________________ OG JHC

Is there a lot of oil visible inside the engine compartment? I had a bad oil sending unit that was leaking a bunch of oil. Check the obvious: valve covers, oil drain area, oil filler neck, etc. |
