Not to "holy Old thread" batman
But many many years ago I set to find a way to build a speaker box to fit to 2 Kicker 15s.
1. Take backseat out and build up to a level floor, remember to keep battery and voltage regulator etc reachable- I did this with a false door.
2. Build box and center it in rear
3. Use plywood to build a skin to completely fill in the rear area.
4. Have fun
Image provided are rather large so I will just provide links.

Nice setup crazydaze, very pro looking. I just got my replacement tweeters, still waiting on the 4" mids. I'll keep you all updated. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

With the old deck. I'm now running a new Alpine unit. It's all fairly well hidden.

I never knew you could do so many options and such cool stuff to these bugs. I have finally got my cd-player/speakers all installed, and sounds great for just deck-powered. I have been trying to post some pictures but my clutch and throttle cable keep biting me in the ass, so other work comes first. I will put some up soon and thanks for all the great ideas and pictures!

Hi; man you guys have so awesome set ups. I just had my tape deck and speakers jacked, so I have a new cd player and speakers now.
they did a number on the existing wiring when they boosted it. I have power and an pushing decent wattage .. but the yellow (wire from the deck) has no where to go. I've run it strait to the power wire (from the bug).. and it works but doesn't save the stations or place on the cd player. I figure this should run of the cigarette lighter but want to check .. any other ideas on how to keep the juice going to the memory on the deck. thanks! |

I used a pair of plastic ones to fab new ones from metal. Hand hammered and formed by my body guy. He's a pretty talented guy. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

this is what I have put into the back of my '74 bug, I originally made it for my '67 that I owned 17 years ago. It is a sub box with fiberglass insulation stapled to the inside, two 8 ohm 10" JL audio subwoofers connected in parallel for a 4 ohm load, two illuminated 5 1/4 full range dual speakers that are mounted just outside of the box's enclosure, I have a planet audio head unit, two Crunch amplifiers underneath the front hood of the car one 500 watt for the subs ang a 600 watt 150 x 4 for the 4 other speakers an equalizer and a 2 farad capacitor also.
this took alot of guess work because I made it before the internet became a household name. I measured the rear compartment and made a cardboard template for the top shelf area, that the speakers are mounted to. The before picture is showing the underneath enclosure
this is the redo and in my '74 now

Here is another design for a rear speaker box for a bug, this one is made of fiberglass, bondo, a heavy duty stapler, some t-shirt material (a piece of fleece works better) and mdf for the sides and bottom of the enclosure.
The bottom of the enclosure must remain off until the top is finished because all the fiberglass work is done from the underside, just the resin is applied to the top of the t-shirt or fleece material. I've made two of these enclosures so far, it's not very hard to make at all.
This is the first one that I ever made. I made this for my brothers '70 bug,it also has two full range 5 1/4" sony speakers and one single 10" DVC Quantum audio sub. I was also made with some front door fiberglass speaker pods
I made this one for another guy that saw my brother's enclosure and wanted me to make another for his bug

All cool and whatnot, but how about keeping the car lighter for better gas mileage, or how about enjoying it like it was meant to, when it was built. |
