All cool and whatnot, but how about keeping the car lighter for better gas mileage, or how about enjoying it like it was meant to, when it was built. |
Well some people are more purists that way and either still keep a stock AM radio with the single speaker in the dash or sometimes not having a radio at all in their bugs and just carry around portable radios with batteries.
I do have to say that my engine and carburetor is souped up a bit and that the enclosure that I have in my bug is pretty heavy maybe 65 lbs, because I made it out of particle board instead of mdf, way back then.
The partially built fiberglass ones are a whole lot lighter than mine maybe around 35lbs. So come warmer weather I'm going to re-do mine over to a fiberglass style instead. They are pretty easy to build also. You just have to do the math to figure out the cubic ft. recommended for your subs (length x width x height divided by 1728= how many cu. ft.) Then build your box, wooden mdf speaker rings and so fourth
This is a photo of my brothers '70 bug that the red speaker box went into...

I figured Id post some snap shots of my audio system. She sounds clean at lower volume which is the way i usually listen, but she can shake other cars at a red light when cranked up.

Tried those turn anything into a speaker thing that everybody was hooking up to their iPhones and mp3 players just in the stock back shelf area?
Also, I do like the stock look, to each their own. Retro sound provides a stereo speaker for the dash location.
Although, if I totally cal looked my 66 and put in, what is, to me, the most obnoxious stereo system money can buy, and magically transform my car into some sort of automobile that attracts scantily clad members of the fairer sex...
Nah, never mind. It'd never work around these parts. Besides that, I'm pretty sure the wife would be somewhat less than amused. _________________ --
