Not sure if it would look better on the hood ...
Actually I've been toying with the idea of making just such a setup ... maybe without the horns though. _________________ Get ready for the injection

Those tiny inlets on that setup (the one on the ENGINE, yes) would have to go. Those little horns would restrict airflow in a big way. |

I saw one of thouse tested on a dyno session, the engine actually made more TQ with it on, My guess is less turbulant air entering the carb.

Actually, if you look at the inlets, each one is about the size of a single barrel on the carb. Since only one cylinder pulls air in at a time, then it probably is not a restriction. My guess is that it is adequate even for a large 2 liter since there is two openings right there.
A vacuum gauge hooked to the air filter housing while the engine is under load at WOT would tell for sure though. _________________ Eric Allred

I think they are awesome, just too much money. It's also possible they are TUNED via opening size and chamber volume, and could increase power compared to regular filters or stacks without filters. The intake system resonates just like the exhaust, most guys tune the exhaust but don't bother with the intake.
As eric pointed out, the engine is only sucking thru one bbl at a time, and the filter box has 2 inlets, should not be an issue at all.

does the part of the filter that connects to the carb one big opening or is it chambered into two sides? _________________ 65 beetle.lots of rust but I WONT LET THIS ONE GET EATEN BY THE CRUSHER!!!!! |

just look at the original air filter[ of course with a lot less power] and other manufacture's air intakes. the intake is as small or smaller than the throttle diamater. i was thinking of using some turbo blow-through housings on the carbs, with larger inlets and finding a 85-92 vw turbo diesel air filter housing etc. |

Mark H did something like that-used the turbo caps from CB and then fabbed up a box and hoses from PVC-it worked great. The downside to the one in the pic is that you may have to change linkages as well or it may interfere with the airbox. |

I know is a 3-year-old thread.
I searched in the forum and find very little info about the dual IDF air boxes.
I'm looking for one in order to a quiter ride, but as everyone said, the CSP box is too expensive, and I can´t find a cheaper one.
A friend of a friend bought one, custom-made in Germany and he loved the noise reduction.
I wonder if anyone has developed another model (another=cheaper) since 2006.
Thanks

Hi, I have been making a custom box given the cost of the CSP one. (just been working on it today)
I have made the central section, it follows a similar design to the CSP one, but with a modified intake. In essence two halves with a panel filter sandwiched between it.
I am now in the process of making the sections which fit on top of the carburettor bases, which then connect to the middle section by 3" rubber connectors. The box fits under the standard deckled, with no clearance issues.
The intake is 2 1/2" in oval diameter, and the dimensions were arrived at from studying Porsche intake boxes.
The box still needs clamps to be added, which is the next job and removing some of the mould tape which you can see in the inlet and a polish in places.
Sorry haven't worked out yet how to add images into my post but some images can be found at :
