If the belt and the beard had the correct detail, it would be perfect. Scary how good some of the new stuff is getting.

Sorry for the bad pix. Any way to tell if this is a fake or og? The posts are soldered on but the blue is painted. Didn't they come with enamel? Thanks Jason

It's bad............

Enamel is too light and no pebbling in the background (paint like you said...)

File marks on the back suggest a casting clean-up.

Flaw on bottom of reverse (6 o'clock on your second picture) would never pass VW inspection standards and also is a casting issue.

Chrome is too dull....... shows a flash type of chrome instead of a true plate.

The laurel berries on the front are too big..........also a casting marker.

I wouldn't buy it for more than $30. It's just too crude to be real IMO.

I like what I see from the front side. Get me a better picture of the reverse.

Top dollar badges will be maker marked on the bottom outside ring at 6'oclock. If it's not marked it could still be real, but a later generation strike, and about 1/2 as valuable as an early badge.

Sometime in 1961. I'm sure dealers had left over stock for awhile after that though.

Look at the first post on this thread. Wink

The "VW" was the body badge and the St. Christopher was the dash badge.

Buddy of mine in the Netherlands has this NOS badge. Just wanted to get your opinion. Also what is the difference between the earlier and later versions of this style badge?

I've never seen one of these. When did they make these, if they ever did? Thanks again
