1974 Thing with No Electrical Power

Hello:

I went to start my 74 Thing yesterday and nothing. It has a brand new battery and lately I've noticed you have to turn the key really hard to get the car to turn over. Yesterday, no lights on the speedo, no electricity at all. I'm thinking this all may lead me to the ignition switch. Are there any tricks for removing it?
