$5000 for this? I realize these cars won't sell for this, unless someone is not very smart and has to have that particular car.

I hate that broke ass 80's cal look. They were never done well by backyard mechanics, then passed around to different owners that kept crapping on it. Nothing is ever finished on these poor cars. The floppy saggin "Baby turbo" mirrors are just humiliation for the car. Watch, one day this "look" will be back in style

I can't agree more cody1. I hated the cal look when it was popular. The one thing that never goes out of style is stock. I don't do anything to a beetle the can't be reversed in a weekend.

But "Black is the new Black", Black never goes out of style. Look at all the Harley riders, Can't tell any of them apart, like a bunch of black sheep in a burned out field in the dead of the night with no moon. Black is so cool!? not. I'm even color blind and I need color. (don't take me too seriously.)

Looks like another 80's pan job makes the classifieds

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1685041

Original rag? Maybe on the original 59-60 body which is now missing the VIN. I guess the title is clean on the 63 pan.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Are pan job cars really selling for that kind of $?

They are when they're cleaner. Unfortunately he's claims interior good- but I see basketweave and no headliner under the rear window. He's noob- so I'll cut him some slack with his vagueness and lack of disclosure. At least he didn't claim condition #1!

I had a friend years and years ago before I was into bugs here in So Cal. that had a customized 59 rag top he spent a bunch of dough on fixing it up. He let it go to a family friend because he was paralyzed in a car accident from the waist down and someone stole it. I could see a car like this being his out there somewhere.
