I've had several and have seen countless more "barn finds" and none of them have hay lightly sprinkled throughout the engine bay like that. Mice don't have HGTV. Photographic effect poser work happening there. Do his mice watch Martha Stewart?

You don't know what kind of mice are in his barn, maybe they are super intelligent ex-scientific study mice and they like a nice hay layout.

So I staged my barn find?
Do you guys have so much time on your hands that you fish through images of cars you don't have any money to buy and critique images? Really guys?

I've owned 300+ cars over the last 28-years and have never staged or misled anyone.
I typically clean up cars that I purchase but I have a regular job and have not had a chance to pull the shop vac out for this one just yet.
Plus I thought those of you who appreciate original cars would appreciate images of a car in the condition that I found it in.
I can send you pictures of the petrified rat that is on the floorboard inside if you wish but you may over analyze it and say it's a rubber rat.

Nothing is staged here guys.
It is a fact that it did not get removed from a barn but it is as I found it.
I don't have time for staging hay and acorns and feathers into an engine area of a car.
Haven't done anything to the car just yet except remove wheels with flat tires and tow vehicle from the yard it sat in out in Moreno Valley Ca.

One thing I did notice when pushing it out of the yard where it sat since 1996 was that they had chicken coops in back yard so maybe hay came from there.

The whine threads are largely educational- a place to discuss fallacies of ads and whether a seller sounds trustworthy. Your engine bay looks staged given the condition of the car. Big deal. Clean it and guess what? Your credibility goes up. As many cars as you've had and this is considered presentable?

Your comment above is funny because I don't even look at beetles unless they are priced right. Yours is not. Get it started (doesn't need to be a runner), clean out your coop mess and reattach the front bumper- then you've got a $3k beetle. This business of 3k now, 3.5k if I have to work on it for an hour makes you sound like you're selling your third car, not your three hundredth.

Yeah man, I'm selling my 3rd car to pay my space rent on my mobile home out here in Orange County, California.
I thought for sure that those in other states would fall for my BS staged barn find 67 beetle so I went to Petsmart and bought some hay and searched around for some acorns and chewed on them a bit and then captured some local birds and plucked their feathers and to top it off I started feeding rats that were living in my kitchen cabinets and collecting their feces so I could scatter rat crap all around the floor of the inside of the bug just to give it that real effect of a "barn find".
Does that sound more believable?
Again, I purchased the car to resell.
I bought it Friday night, I have been busy ALL weekend because I unlike some others on here have a family and a life outside of talking about other people's cars and how they should sell them or how authentic they are.
Now goodnight and keep dreaming of living where there are palm trees and sunshine.
Fortunately us out here are living reality and not a dream Very Happy

And not for you but I plan on cleaning the car up and repairing the small amount of damage as well as possibly getting it running.
All this will be done over time when I'm not at work or enjoying life away from an electronic device.

And as far as one person judging another over 1000 miles away and saying I need to clean up the engine bay to regain credibility well please....
Haven't lost any credibility over here.
I can admit tho that I have found much amusement talking about this today and reading that someone would actually think for a second that I would "stage" a car to look as if it's been parked for 20-years.
I've been pulling cars from rainforests, fields, barns, garages, side yards, hill sides since probably before you graduated high school.
I thank you for the humor and I will gladly bag the "staged" rat/squirrel nest and send it to you for a more proper analasys if you so desire.
You pay the shipping!

Honestly, I looked at your car and thought it was overpriced but didn't judge, whatever, it's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay.

But.......your responses here have certainly changed any credibility or thought I might have when or if I see any future for sale ads, just my opinion.

BTW, before you bash me, I have approx. 5 palm trees in my back yard, there's so many I don't remember exactly, but they sure are beautiful when the sunny Hermosa Beach sun shines thru them.

Have a good one buddy and stay happy!

What a pain in the ass to clean, luckily in a bug it's not too hard to clean out.

64k miles. But it has a low mile 1600 in it. Doesn't make sense. Why would you have to replace an engine if your car only has 64k on it. Sounds more like 164k to me.
